He looked for the girl first. She was his priority.

The murky depths of the Potomac surrounded him as he searched the water for her.

He spotted the Captain first. Then he saw her body continue to sink not far from them. Despite his dislocated shoulder, the Soldier tried his best to bring the two to shore.

Dragging the Captain in one arm, the Voin over his shoulder, he trudged to the muddy bank. He let go of the Captain and gently rest the girl on the ground. His hand held her face as his eyes searched her body for any form of movement.

There was none. No rise and fall of her chest, no movement behind her eyes. He felt for a pulse. He was met with only cold and wet skin. She wasn't breathing.

The Captain spluttered a low cough before the Soldier started performing CPR on the girl.

She couldn't die on him. He needed her.

He didn't know why he did, or why he had never felt like this before. But, nevertheless, he couldn't let her die.

His hands rapidly pressed up and down on her chest, the feeling of panic and fear rising in his throat with each compression.

What felt like hours, when it was merely minutes, the girl finally coughed up the liquid in her lungs, the water spilling from her lips.

The Soldier physically relaxed, but didn't move from her side.

Her eyes fluttered open. She met his stare, but her gaze was distant.

He looked at her, opening his mouth to speak, but the sound of a helicopter cut him off.

They were looking for the Captain. Of course they would.

Bucky's head snapped from Iola to the sky, spotting the helicopter searching the water. It wouldn't be long before they were spotted. He had a decision to make.

He looked back down to the girl, seeing her eyes had fallen shut again.

With his dislocated shoulder, he wouldn't be able to get them far, not enough for them to hide. But he couldn't leave her here either.

He needed her. She was the only person he could trust, the only person he wanted right now. In a frenzy of chaos and confusion, she seemed to be the only thing he knew.

But she couldn't walk on her own, she was barely alive. He could barely walk himself.

He pulled himself from his knees and stood over the two figures on the ground. With one last look, he turned on his heel and started to limp away from them, the silent tears dripping down his face.

He'll find her again. He wouldn't leave her behind forever.
