Alexander knelt before the empty grave, Liz and I had made a cross to place on her grave, she deserved more than to lie upon an unmarked grave,  and Alexander carved her name into a small branch. He tied some of the leaves from the willow Catherine so loved, onto the sides adding wildflowers that grew on the side of the hill. Once he was finished he placed the finished engraving he set it in front of the cross, it stated, Catherine Pierra, Beloved Wife, Mother and Sister with the Patience of a Saint and the kindness of an Angel. Alexander rose from the empty grave, his eyes darting back and forth from the engraving. His cheeks seemed to glisten in the light, he wiped the tears from his face. And wrapped his hand over his mouth.

Liz and I glanced at each other fearful of the hour. We knew that Nathan was due at any moment, a part of me almost wanted to stay, to face this man and demand the return of our companion. But, I knew that would be just about the dumbest thing I could do. The last time we faced him Alexander was nearly killed, but there was something so strange about him. He seemed so reluctant to harm me. And all too quick hurt Alexander, I could not imagine why. Or how that would benefit him.

"We must depart promptly, I must do one more thing"  Alexander took out his pocket watch and opened it revealing a lock of dark brown hair tied with a lace ribbon. He took the hair, kissed, and buried it beneath the empty grave. He wiped another tear from his face. "At least I can take some comfort in knowing some part of her lies peacefully here beneath her willow" He began to twitch with the toggles of his pocket watch and a portal emerged. Liz and I hold the other's hand as we prepared to enter the pulsating oval.

"I'm glad we did this Alexander, now you can start healing"  Liz clasped Alexander's shoulder and squeezed it, he smiled and looked back at us,

"Albeit that we became acquainted under rather unorthodox methods I am pleased to have you both at my sides during this, I know Catherine did not want me to bear her loss alone, and for that, I thank you" Alexander bowed his head before stepping into the portal Liz and I followed suit.
