Chapter 11 Water Under The Bridge

I was going down the stairs when Nathan grabbed my arm, " Claire may I speak to you for a moment?" I nod," I have been attempting to understand and remain calm about everything that has happened to us in the past few days, however I would like to ask some questions to Catherine about everything, I am still a bit frightened to even make eye contact with Alexander, anyway since you are also not accustomed to this world I was wondering if you would like to ask her with me?" I felt a little weird answering cause the question was so awkward, "Um, sure I think she's downstairs" We go down the stairs and sure enough there was Catherine standing by the fire stirring something in a pot by the fire when she sees me a large smile emerged from ear to ear she wiped her hands on the waist apron she was wearing, " Good Morn to you both,  you have an inquisitive look on your face perhaps  I may be able to find you both some answers ?" I smile," um yeah well, good morn and yeah anyway Nathan here had a couple questions about everything he wanted to ask you, so um Nathan?" Nathan shook his head, "  Of course however I would first like to ask if..." Alexander walks past and smiles at us and as always tries to ignore Nathan. Nathan saw Alexander and clammed up, " Uh my mind has gone completely blank, Claire could you come with me please? we walked outside to the open countryside, " What just happened Nathan? You asked me to help you ask question so what's up? Nathan looked at me confused and looked up, " The sky?" I sigh, " It's just an expression meaning what is the reasoning behind your behavior," said Catherine walking up to Nathan and I," Now come on, Alexander wants to speak to us all in the parlor," We all walk into the parlor and sure enough Alexander was standing near the fireplace his hands behind his back and his pocket watch sat on top of it. He clears his throat and took a deep breath," We can not stay here, as we saw with your disguise, Nathan is clearly preparing for attack and we must be prepared, so we need weapons Catherine does not own any so unfortunately we must be off time is of the essence I must train you to fight I must take you to home and I must take you home-" Alexander says while pointing at Nathan, Liz, and I.  Nathan opens his mouth to protest, but is quickly shut down by Alexander, " You returning home is not an argument you have the ability to make and I will not negotiate it or discuss it further, Catherine will cast a surveillance spell upon you house so that I may look upon it and hopefully discover who disguised your face from us,  And Elizabeth I will need you to swear on your life that you will not breath a word of anything you have heard or seen during this time if anyone asks about Claire you will say she had a family emergency had to leave to be with her family" Liz freaks out, " So you're just gonna drop me back and hope this whole thing stays hush hush? And what the hell am I gonna tell her family? Huh she was adopted by a nice people good people who she talks to every week! What do I tell them, Hi yeah this is your daughter's best friend she ran away with a time traveling lunatic who's gonna teach her in hand to hand combat! YAY! Aren't you so proud that she dropped out of college to fight in a time war! Yeah I'm sure her parents will be more than happy to hear my call won't they?" Alexander sighs, "Elizabeth, though you raise valid concerns it is simply far too hazardous for you to come along and do not fret about the matter of her parents I will personally tell them that she has gone to dig wells in Africa, no parent in their right mind would be against that" Liz opened her mouth again, but Alexander quickly stated that we had to go, " Catherine will walk us to the bridge from there we will hike into the deep forest and create a portal, we cannot have any pedestrian catch a glimpse of our magic, Now we march!" Alexander and Catherine walk ahead of us guiding the way obviously saying their goodbyes as they walk toward the bridge Nathan comes up to me, " Claire even though this whole endeavor has been odd and frankly quite painful at the beginning, I am eternally grateful to God for having met you, you are extraordinary and I hope that you never forget that" we reach the bridge Catherine gives one last kiss goodbye to Alexander before coming to me, " Claire I know our time together has been short, however I feel like I have built a bond with you,  and I must say that you are the best thing to come into our lives in a long time, I know that you help Alexander. He thought he was the only good time jumper left and then he found you! He is already so excited to teach you what he knows" Catherine's words were kind as they always were a twinge of guilt tweaked my stomach I had to tell her," Catherine I know that when we first met I was a bit rude and distant to you, but I just wanna let you know that all that's changed now, you are by far the kindest person-" Catherine put her hand on my shoulder, "  think nothing of it, it is all water under the bridge, Have a safe trip Claire Bellefleur" After that I heard the gunshot the loud, terrifying sound that made me tense up and close my eyes the feeling that my insides had been turned upside down, after the the shot I was too scared to open my eyes to find out that I was shot until I heard the splash of water and remembered we were on a bridge.
