Chapter 2

I couldn't believe what I saw, a cat this thin couldn't be alive.  As me and Cream stood there, a cloud went over the bright sun.  More clouds followed, a bad omen.  We knew it was going to rain soon.

"We have to get this cat out of the rain!"  Cream yowled.  "He will be dead for real this time if we don't do something."

"And how many places don't mind having another cat in the house?"  I asked.  "Probably he is better off in the pound than in this small neighborhood."

Where was this shelter for this cat?  My masters (owners) said it out loud that if they got another cat in the house, they would have to get a two story building.  Cream's masters (owners) wouldn't like this cat either.  She would get kicked out for the night if they found out that their purebred kitty goes outside everyday while they were at their jobs.  The first rain drops started to fall.

"I know where there is shelter."  said Cream.

Cream could not be serious.  She wanted us to put the cat in the Hound's house.  The hound didn't like guests.  He would want to eat us first before we could find shelter there.

I followed Cream, shaking at the thought.  Maybe this was all a dream, but it didn't want me to wake up.  Cream, carrying the cat in her jaws, knew I was thinking about going home to the shorthaired Tom and the beautiful Jeanette.

"You can go home if you want."  said Cream.  "I know you Maxine and I know that coat of yours doesn't agree with water."

  "No thank you."  I said.

Really I did want to go home, to go to sleep in my soft bed, but my legs just wanted to keep walking the same direction.  Are dreams this realistic?  No, they would have birds with stars on their feathers and only bright sunny days.  I knew this wasn't a dream.

As we walked closer and closer, I started shaking more and more.  I was a weenie, a wimp, and a scaredy cat.  If only I could be as brace as FireStar in these books one of my masters (owners) read.  If only I were as lucky as him, joining a Clan and becoming a great warrior.

Soon we entered the house, being careful we didn't drop the cat, waking up the Hound.  When we found a certain spot, I saw the cat's eyes start to flicker.  He was going to wake up!

That was the first time I saw Gold, helpless and thin.  I didn't know about what we would eventually do; go on a wild quest.  I would become a rogue, just as helpless as him.  With my teammates at our side, we would be unstoppable.

That was when I saw a confused look in his golden eyes.  He was looking all over the place for clues about his location.  There was something that cat wanted to remember.

"Where am I?"  said the cat.

(Note:  Start keeping a tally on the Warriors references right now, because they are only just beginning.  When I wrote this story at ten, I had just finished the first as well as the second arcs of the book series.  Warriors was a hot topic for me at the time, which leaked into my writing quite a bit.  While I remember trying my best to just make as casual as a shoutout as I could to the book series, instead I accidentally ended up borrowing entire elements from it.

If you are a long time fan of the book series, you are probably going to notice exactly where those borrowed elements are.  To give those who might need a little bit of help seeing them a hint; most of the references come from the books Into the Wild and Midnight.  If you spot any of the references, please let me know in the comments.  Although I am not happy that I ended up to an extent ripping off the series, I want to turn something bad good by making a small little game out of it.)
