23. Hydra

I made my way to an empty telephone in the streets. I rung the only phone number i could remember, hoping someone would pick up.

"Hello." Steve asked threw the phone.

"Hey Stranger." I said smiling.

"Nick! Your alive! oh thank god! were are you?" Steve asks

I tell him my address and 4 minutes later a black sports car rolls up. I watch the window roll down. " Hey there I'm looking for a fossil" Natasha says smiling.

"Hey Nat." I says as I get in.

As we roll up towards the base Steve is in, I jump out of the car and run up to Steve pulling him into a hug. "I missed you." 

"I'm glad your okay Nick." He said hugging me back.

"I'd hate to cut the reunion short." Fury says as he walks out the building. "But we are on a schedule."

My eyes widen at the sight of him. "What-the Huh? the- you What?" I say with utter confusion. 

"Its a long story Beckett." Fury says.

I was dropped onto one of the helicarriers by Sam. Natasha was in the building and Steve and Sam took care of the other two helicarriers. As I run threw the helicarrier, fighting Hydra agents and dodging bullets I hear Steve's voice "Alpha lock."

"Cap get over here!" Sam said  "Nick's got the chip but i had to take to the shy."

I rolled my eyes slightly annoyed by the fact I was being baby sat. But also thankful I was cared about. "I'm fine" I said while knocking a man out "Don't worry about me."

I kick down a metal door and inside were 5 men all heavily armed. I smiled as I begun to fight them. I punch a guy making him fall to the ground a guy from behind me tried to attack but i side stepped and pulled his arm forward making him fall onto the other guy. The three other guy attack me at the same, I jumped up high grabbing onto the bar so I stayed in the air as the three guy knock each other out. I let go and run to re-chip the helicarrier. Suddenly I get shot in my calf. I scream as I fall to the ground clutching my leg.

"Nick?! Are you okay?!" I hear Steve voice in the ear piece.

"Sir, we got her down." The man who shot me said. I look up it was one of them men i fought in the elevator. The man aims his gun at me. I look away when i hear a gun shoot. 

I Slowly open my eyes, other then the pain in my leg I'm fine. I look up the mean who was about to shoot me was fallen to to ground. Dead. I look behind me The Winter Soldier had shot the man. Saving my life... Again. "That's Mine." He snarled. He walked over to me. Or I should says strutted over to me. And he helped me up. His metal arm wedged under my knees and his real arm around my shoulders, he didn't take his eyes off me.

"I kept your secret." He told me in a soft croak, the kind smirk on his face made me smile. He sounded totally different person. And then it came flooding back to me. Everything, The train, Peggy Project Rebirth and him. James Buchanan Barnes.

"J-James?" I says looking deeply into his eyes.

"Yeah?" He said smiling with tears almost in his eyes. 

I suddenly hear the door burst open and Steve is there.

"Put her down Bucky." He said

Staring back at Bucky that were now glued to Steve I saw the Bucky in him disappear The Winter Soldier came crawled back and took over. He put me down and stepped over me protectively. He whipped out a knife. Backing away slowly I watched the suspense rise. 

"Don't make me do this." Steve pleaded. But Bucky was gone, the only thing that mattered to him now was his mission. I watched to two lunged at each other. Then I recalled my own mission. Fiddling with the small bag on my belt i got the target chip and I hurried to the control centre. I was about to place in the chip but Bucky pushed Steve into me and we both fell off the side of the control centre, I dropped the chip during the fall.  I didn't have time to think about the pain in my back I went to towards the chip. Bucky suddenly threw me out of the way I went flying back and I hit y entire body on a beam i fell the the ground, trying to catch my breath. Everything hurt. My back, my head, the bleeding wasn't stopping. I just laid still until I heard Maria's voice "We're in! Cap Nick get outta there."

But I couldn't move, I just laid there, I manged to turn my head Steve was still fighting Bucky but they were tried now, it was more longer punches. I saw a huge beam coming down on them. I yelled there names and Bucky turned around and ran to me. Steve had fallen. 

"I-I'm Sorry  I Didn't mean t-to hurt you." Bucky stuttered I could tell he was back now. He picked me up again.

"Steve." I said touching his shoulder "We have to get Steve."

Bucky looked down at the water and then back at me. he nodded. We walkover to the hole in the glass. Bucky looks at me as if to say Are you ready? I nodded, and he jumps the falling sensation was almost peaceful. I then felt Bucky's arms wrap around me as we hit the water. Hitting the water was like hitting the beam again but she couldn't stop she had to find Steve, I rose to the surface and took a big breath and dived, the water stung my eyes for a second, I looked a round the water and tried to dodge a few construction pieces falling down into me. I then saw Bucky carrying Steve out of the water and i followed helping him. We broke the waters surface and I helped carry Steve to the shore.

 As we out of the water I checked Steve's heartbeat it was beating, slowly but it was beating, I took a breathe of relief before looking at Bucky.

"Thank you Bucky." I say standing up to him.

"That's...not my name..." he said. The Winter Soldier was still in him but Bucky was also there.

"It -its okay you can come with us Tony will help you remember so will I" I offer but he shakes his head and begins to walk away.

I stop him in his paths holding onto his real arm. "Where are you going?"

"Away..." He responds monotonously.

"No, you can stay with us... with me." I offer again but he shakes his head. He grabs my hand pressing our fingers together. "I have to go away." He states.

I sigh and look at the ground for a while. "...okay." I pull him into a hug. he flinches slightly at my actions but he hugs me back. 

He pulls away and is about to leave before I grab him again pulling him into a long kiss. He doesn't flinch this time instead he cups my face and kisses me back. For what felt like an eternity we pull away, he stares into my eyes and smiles before he leaves.

I turned back to Steve who is now breathing properly and i look back to Bucky. He is gone.
