"Well, guys, thanks for an awesome first day! I had a great time meeting everyone! I'm gonna run to the bathroom really quick and then I'll come back to get my stuff and go."

I didn't notice that everyone actually likes me. Espo and I are buds, Ryan's really cool, and Captain Gates has been nothing but nice to me. Even Castle likes me, after I made a complete ass out of myself in front of him earlier. The only person I don't know that well or have even said a word to is Detective Beckett. She seems kind of uptight and tense.

As I finish up in the bathroom, I walk back out and I see all five of them huddled up, like they're creating a game plan. Captain Gates noticies that I'm back and says, "Hey Jessi. There's something you're not telling us." "What...?" I ask, confused by what they mean. "I mean, today's just your TWENTY-FIRST BIRTHDAY! All of us had a talk, and we were wondering if you wanted to go to Castle's place with us to eat, drink, and hang out. Since you're new, we figured we should have a little party to celebrate, and help you celebrate your birthday! Mr. Castle has kindly offered to have us all at his place." I don't even hesitate to answer. "Wow, thanks guys! Sure, I'd love to come!"

When we all get to Castle's, I'm all excited to get ready to party with everyone. "My mother and Alexis are in the Hamptons, so we have the whole place to ourselves." I notice a little smirk on Detective Beckett's face when he says that. I forgot she was even here. What was that little smirk for? Whatever.

"I'd like to make a toast. To Jessi, for being a cool new intern and for letting us celebrate her twenty-first birthday with her. Lets get this girl a drink!" Espo says. As we all start drinking and having fun, I realize how lucky I am to have some really cool new friends, who love their jobs, but also have a life away from work. Being able to work with them for the entire summer is going to be a blast.

At about ten o'clock, my phone buzzes in my pocket. Shit, it's my mom. "Hello?" "JESSI WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN!? I'M WORRIED SICK OVER HERE!" "Oh my God mom, calm down, I'm fine! I was at the precinct and the detectives invited me to a party and I just lost track of the time!" "YOU NEED TO REMEMBER TO CALL ME FIRST!" "Mom, why are you so upset? I'm twenty-one years old; I can handle myself now. You don't have to baby me anymore!" "NO MATTER HOW OLD YOU ARE, I'M YOUR MOTHER. IF I EXPECT YOU HOME AT A CERTAIN TIME AND YOU DON'T SHOW UP AFTER THREE HOURS I'M GOING TO GET WORRIED!" "Sheesh, I'm sorry. I'm at a party with the detectives for my birthday. I'll be home later. Don't worry, I'm fine. Go to bed." Click. God Almighty. She needs to calm down.

The partying continues, and everyone is having a great time. Espo comes up behind me and grabs me by the hips. At first, I'm taken by surprise, but I realize that I kind of like it. "Hey baby, wanna dance?" he mumbles. "Hell yeah, let's do this shit." I say back. Let's face it; we've all had about five beers and are getting a little tipsy. Espo and I grind for awhile, and sooner or later we resort to the couch, where I'm laying on top of him. He slowly reaches up and kisses me softly on the lips. Espo's a good man. I really like him. I kiss him back, and after a few kisses, we hold each other close, and start making out. We just can't get enough of each other. No one even notices what we're doing for a good five minutes. Then, Captain Gates comes over to break us apart. "Hey guys, just because we've all had a few drinks doesn't mean that we need to make babies over here." "Right. Sorry." I say, getting off of Espo.

"Damn, Jess, you're a great kisser." Espo says. "You're not so bad yourself, Espo." I say to him sensually. Too bad Gates had to break us up. It could've led to something more. Oh well. We'll just have to try another time.

"Bye, guys. Thanks for coming." Castle says as Gates, Ryan, Espo and I leave. "Happy Birthday, Jess." Beckett says to me. I was kind of shocked that she actually talked to me. "Thanks. See you guys tomorrow! I'm going to drive Espo home; he's wasted." "Good idea. See you tomorrow." Castle says.

I found it strange that Beckett didn't leave with us. When we get in the car, I ask Espo about it. "She's probably spending the night." "Doesn't she have her own home to go to?" I ask. "Well, they're probably going to sleep together tonight, you know." "WAIT, WHAT?!" I yell, slamming on the brakes. "Yeah, they're together. You didn't know that?!" "Umm, NO! No one told me!" I say angrily. "Well, Captain Gates doesn't know, and we're all trying to keep it that way. They act as though they're single at the twelfth so she won't find out." Castle and Beckett, I should've known. They're not just work partners, they're bed partners.

As I pull up in Espo's driveway, he says goodbye, and I lean over and kiss him. We start to make out again, and then I realize that it is already three in the morning; I should probably get home. "Espo, Espo, I've gotta go. I'll see you tomorrow, okay? I'll pick you up in the morning." "Okay, baby. See you tomorrow."

What a night.
