You stared in despair at your overflowing suitcase tucked in the corner of your cousin Tori's room. You'd recently moved to Heartland City from your quiet hometown for education purposes, and whilst the city was gorgeous, it was also massive. And so your unwaveringly positive cousin had offered to take you on a tour of the city before school started in two days time.

Currently, you were struggling with picking an outfit to wear. Unlike Tori, who usually wore bright or pastel colours, your sense of fashion was much more monochrome. Tugging at the knot of jumpers, you heard your cousin open the door to your now shared room.

"Do you want any help?" She asked, stifling a laugh behind her hand. Sighing, you waved her over to help you defeat the heap.

An hour later you were both dressed, looking like polar opposites. Whilst you wore black skinny jeans and a striped long sleeve with boots, Tori had chose;a summery sundress with kitten heels. Apart from the hair colour and eyes (the genes ran strong in the family) you looked nothing alike.

"It's a pretty place, that's for sure." You remarked about Heartland as you strolled along the grassy bank next to the water.

"It sure is!" She agreed enthusiastically, "And I can't wait for you to meet everyone!"

Making a funny face, you decided to tease your cousin, "I don't know about that, if they're anywhere near as exhausting as you."

Feigning hurt, she replied, "They're not all like Yuma, I promise!" You grimaced at the memory of Yuma visiting your parents cottage with Tori one summer. It did not end well, and you vowed never to let him near a horse again.

As the two of you started to draw nearer to the centre of the city with the intentions of finding a cafe to eat at, you noticed your cousin's ears perk up at a certain sound. Cocking your head to the side also, you listened, only to be met with another engine.

Whilst you dismissed it, Tori seemed to recognise it, and as the motorbike rounded the corner, she waved at it to pull over.

"...What on earth are you doing?" You asked curiously as the bike pulled to a stop. The rider removed their helmet, revealing a scowling purple haired boy your age.

"What do you want, Tori?" He asked, not impolitely, but not politely either. She clapped her hands together before turning to you.

"Y/N, this is Shark. Shark, this is Y/N. She's going to be joining our school, and since you're both second years, I figured I'd introduce you two whilst I have the chance!" Tori explained.

'Shark' turned his icy gaze to you.

"Y/N, huh? You two related or something? Long lost sisters?" He raised an eyebrow, twirling his helmet on one finger absentmindedly.

"Cousins." You corrected, watching it spin. When a sudden hand stopped it, you glanced up, staring directly into blue eyes returning the favour.

"...Sure don't dress alike," he commented, a hint of amusement in his voice. You glanced at Tori's cute outfit and then down at your own black and white ensemble.

"I'm the mature one, clearly." You snickered, earning a playful slap from Tori.

"Says the one stuck in her emo phase." She retorted. The playful bickering continued for a moment before you paused and changed your tune slightly.

"We're arguing about who's more immature, but we forget that we're in the presence of a guy named 'Shark'." You pointed out, dragging the bemused onlooker into the conflict.

"I didn't give myself that nickname, you know," he protested, to which you replied, "Sure, buddy."

"His real name's-" Tori started, cut off suddenly by Shark revving his bike to drown her out.

"You're no fun," you grumbled, glaring playfully at the driver. The corner of his lips tilted upwards a little before saying, "I guess you'll find out at school. Or not," he teased before speeding off, leaving you and Tori baffled.

It was quiet for a moment, with the exception of background city noise, until your cousin all of a sudden burst out: "He was flirting!"

"What? No, he wasn't." You denied. Tori shook her head frantically.

"He's never like that! Ever! He totally likes you," she sang, and continued to tease you about it all the way home.

"So, are you excited to see Shark today?" Tori wiggled her eyebrows at you a few days later as the school came into view.

"Nah," you said casually.

Well, maybe a little.
