After a long day of classes, (Y/n) made her way out of her classroom and towards the library. On her way there she passed the balcony overlooking the front door before watching a boy with bandages on his eyes bump into Jean, one of her best students.

After watching their small interaction, (Y/n) noticed a familiar blonde next to him.

"Alex?" (Y/n) asked with a smile as she walked down the stairs towards her friend.

"The one and only." Alex happily responded before pulling (Y/n) into a tight hug.

"I've missed you." (Y/n) said before the boy next to them cleared his throat.

"(Y/n) I want you to meet my brother, Scott. I'm hoping the professor will enroll him in the school." Alex explained, as Scott reached in the direction to (Y/n) to try and shake her hand.

"Hello, Scott, it's nice to finally meet you. I'm (Y/n), I'm the English teacher here." (Y/n) said as she shook his hand.

"Alex Summers?" Another voice suddenly questioned.

"Hank McCoy!" Alex exclaimed as he and (Y/n) watched Hank walk down the stairs towards them.

"Whoa! What happened to the big, blue, furry you?" Alex joked as he shook Hank's hand.

"Uh, I keep him under control now." Hank responded. After an awkward meeting between Scott and Hank. All four mutants made their way towards the professor.

They all soon made it to the room where Charles was teaching. As soon as Charles spotted them, he dismissed his classroom

"Alex. It's good to see you." Charles chuckled as he shook Alex's hand before pulling him into a hug.

"Ah, you too." Alex responded with a smile.

"You look well. It's been a while." Charles added.

"It had. Not too bad yourself." Alex commented, before moving towards Scott.

"This is my brother, Scott." Alex says to the professor.

"Hello, Scott. Welcome to the School for the Gifted." Charles said with a smile.

"Yeah, it doesn't exactly feel like a gift." Scott responded.

"It never does, at first." Charles responded.

Soon the small group walked outside of the school. Across from them, Jean practiced archery before watching the group from afar.

"The first step in understanding one's power is learning the extent of it. Only then can we begin the process of teaching you how to control it. If you do decide to stay, I can promise you that by the time you're done here, you'll be able to go back into the world and play a stable and productive part in it." Charles said as the group stopped in front of a training area.

"Why don't you take your bandages off and we can have a look at what we're dealing with here?" Charles asked.

"Alex, would you line him up, please?" (Y/n) asked before receiving a look from Charles. (Y/n) understood and got ready to form a shield just in case things went bad.

"There's a target right across the water. When you open your eyes, try and hit that." Charles said to Scott.

Scott then opened his eyes only for the lasers to take out the target before hitting the tree behind it. Both the children and the adults near him flinched to the side before Scott closed his eyes.

Charles laughed as he saw the laser mark from where the target stood all the way towards and up the tree behind it.

"My grandfather planted that tree when he was five years old. I used to swing from the branches of it, myself." Charles said just before the tree split in half and fell.

Behind him, (Y/n) hid in Alex's shoulder as she stifled her laughs. Meanwhile Alex just bites his lip to stop himself from laughing.

"I think that was probably my favorite tree." Charles added, making (Y/n) lose it. Alex quickly covered her mouth until she calmed down even though he too was letting out a few chuckles.

"Does that mean I'm expelled?" Scott asked.

"Oh, on the contrary. You're enrolled."

Later that night, (Y/n) was woken up by the school shaking. She quickly stood up before grabbing her robe and walking out into the hallway.

As she got closer to Jean's room, (Y/n) ran into Charles. The two gave each other a knowing look before continuing down the hallway.

"Go back to bed, please. Back to bed." Charles said to the younger kids that peeked out of their doors.

"Charles, go. I'll handle this." (Y/n) said, earning a grateful smile from the man before he continued towards Jean's room.

"Come on kids, back to bed. you have class tomorrow." (Y/n) said, making the kids groan before they headed back to bed. Just as (Y/n) was going to help Charles and Hank a little voice spoke up.

"Miss (Y/n). I'm scared." One of the younger girls said as she stood by her door.

"Oh, Darling, there's nothing to be afraid of." (Y/n) said as she picked up the girl and walked into her bedroom.

Once inside, (Y/n) noticed that her roommate, another girl her age, was also awake and hugging her pillow. (Y/n) placed the little girl on her bed and tucked her in before turning to the other one.

"Both of you are perfectly safe. Now come on, back to sleep." (Y/n) said as she helped tuck the other little girl in.

Soon both girls and Jean had gone back to sleep, allowing (Y/n), Charles and Hank to finally relax.

"Is everything alright, Charles." (Y/n) asked.

"Yes, dear, go back to bed." Charles lied, not wanting to worry (Y/n).

(Y/n) quietly made her way down the hallway back to her room. Once there she shed her robe leaving her in shorts and Peter shirt before hopping in bed. She lay awake for a few moments thinking about everything before trusting Charles' words and drifting to sleep.

What she didn't know is how bad things would get in the following 24 hours.
