girl next door

chapter 9

and he kissed me. i'm kissing my best friend. i didn't really comprehend that for a moment. he pulled away and i stood there shocked.

"i'm sorry" he said.

"why?" i asked.

"i don't know" he said. this is really awkward. he sat down on my bed and pat the spot next to him so i would sit down as well. i did as he wanted and sat next to him.

"riv i don't really know what's happening" he said.

"me either" i said and sighed. we sat there in silence for what felt like hours but was really only twenty minutes. then mom walked in.

"everything okay in here it's awfully quiet?" she asked. harry and i glanced from eachother to my
mom multiple times.

"i don't know anymore" i said and got up and walked downstairs. i grabbed the cake and a fork and just started eating it. i didn't even cut a piece. my dad came over and joined me.

"so what happened?" he asked taking a bite of the cake.

"i screwed everything up" i whispered.

"how?" he and another voice asked. i looked over and saw sawyer.

"when did you get here?" i asked.

"just now, sodapop called me and rachel to come here" he said and i nodded.

"now what's the problem" sawyer and dad both asked.

"i can't like my best friend dad it doesn't work" i said.

"i fell in love with my best friend riv and we ended up with you" dad said which caused me to laugh.

"but what happened upstairs, i assume your moms talking to harry" he said.

"he kissed me" i said quietly and his eyes widened. he wouldn't be mad, he doesn't care. but i wasn't sure how he would react.

"was that your first kiss?" he asked and i laughed.

"no dad" i said and he sighed in relief.

"well, if it is meant to be he will ask you out" sawyer said and i rolled my eyes.

"will he though? harry's a player, no offense sawyer, i don't just wanna be another one of those girls" i said blinking back tears.

(*harrys pov*)

"i don't know anymore" river said and walked out.

"what's the story now" emma said sitting on the chair in front of me.

"we kissed" i said and she smiled.

"you kissed her or she kissed you" she asked when i saw my mom walk in.

"when did you get here?" i asked.

"just now, now spill" she said sitting next to me.

"i kissed her" i said.

"did you want too or did you just want to shut her up, we all know river rambles" emma said.

"both?" i said with a question mark. i did want too, i just think i wanted to shut her up at the same time.

"do you like her" mom asked.

"i think so i just don't know this is all happening so fast" i said.

"well, ask her out, then if you do then you guys can work it out" emma said and i nodded.

"thank you" i said and kissed both there cheeks. we walked downstairs and i heard river say

"will he though? harrys a player, no offense sawyer, i don't wanna be another one of those girls"

"riv you would never be one of those girls" i said walking over and they all looked at me. she stayed quiet.

"let's talk outside" i said taking her hand and she nodded and we walked outside and sat on the steps on the porch.

"i wanna take you out to dingoes" i said and she looked at me.

"you don't have too if you don't want too" she said.

"i want too, please will you go to dingoes with me?" i asked.

"i guess i can" she said and i smiled.

"do you know what time it is?" she asked.

"like 6:45 we can go now if you'd like" i said and she nodded. we stood up and walked back inside.

(*rivers pov*)

we walked back inside and i pulled on my converse and put my switch in my pocket. i walked into the kitchen and arizona was talking with harry and i'd parents plus dally.

"uh we're gonna go to dingoes we will be home later" i said grabbing my keys but harry took them out of my hand.

"ok have fun" sawyer said.

"be safe" rachel said

"don't do anything legal" mom said.

"do all things legal" dad said.

"don't listen to your father" dally said and we all laughed.

"don't have too much fun without me!" arizona said.

"bye" harry and i said laughing and we walked towards the front door.

"if you crash my car combs i'll skin you" i said starting to feel better.

"i won't crash" he said.

"you say that now but you could" i said and he laughed. we drove to dingoes and sat in our booth getting our usual orders like always. we were eating and talking. we talked more than usual. i thought it would be weird but it really wasn't. we were having a great time til jeremey walked in. he came over to us and looked really mad but also sad.

"what's going on here?" he asked.

"uh we're on a date" harry said.

"a date? i thought you were with jen" he said.

"she broke up with me a week ago" harry said.

"what's up sheldon" i said trying not to be mean.

"well i came here looking for you" he said.

"why?" harry asked.

"uhm can i talk to you alone for a minute river" jeremey said. i was confused.

"sure i guess, i'll be back in a sec h" i said and we walked outside.

"so what is it? is there a rumble or something?" i asked.

"what? no" he said.

"than what is it?" i asked.

"i like you" he said and i froze.
