girl next door

chapter 19

I woke up and the college pamphlet was on my face. I took it off of me and put it on the coffee table and got up and went into the kitchen. I grabbed a water out of the fridge and saw a note.

"Ollie is at Harry's with Willow, Dad and I will be back soon. Love you!

- mom"

Great I'm home alone. I walked upstairs and changed into a green and blue flannel I stole from Harry and blue mom jeans. I walked downstairs and walked next door to Harry's. Ollie and Willow were playing by the door and when they were about to say something so I shooshed them.

I walked into the kitchen and Harry was making pancakes. I sat on the counter as quiet as possible and he still hadn't noticed I was there.

"You know H I thought you would be happier to see me," I said and he turned around and dropped the pancake batter. I burst into laughter and grabbed paper towels. I cleaned up the batter and threw away the towels.

"That was not nice," Harry said. "You'll be fine," I replied and he smiled and hugged me. I kissed his cheek and sat back on the counter. "Is that my shirt?" He asked and flipped the pancakes. "Yes," I said taking a pancake that was already finished.

"You aren't getting it back either," I said taking a bite. "You look better in it anyway," He said and I smiled. Ollie and Willow walked in the kitchen and sat on each side of me.

"are you excited for game night?" Willow asked. "is that tonight?" I asked and Ollie nodded. Every few months we have a game night where all of us, like literally all of us, go to our house and play card games or sports all night.

"I thought that was next week," I said. "Nope it's today," Harry said. "Oh awesome," I said.

I put all the snacks on the table as the doorbell rang. "River go open the door," Dad said. I walked over and opened it and Dally, Cosy, and Hannah walked in. "Hey kid," Dal said. "Hey Dal, hey Han, Cosy," I said and they all came in.

"Pretzels? really Mae?" Dally said to Mom. "Dallas be nice there's more than pretzels," Cosy said. "The pretzels are for the kids smart ass," Mom said and I laughed and covered Ollies ears.

"Language in front of Ollie," I joked. Eventually everyone was here. Johnny and Two-Bit hugged me because I don't see them as often as the others.

"what's first?" Two-Bit asked. "Quiet Two," Rachel said. "Let's see what you're doing wrong with the food," Darry said walking over to Mom. All the adults were talking so all the kids except Ollie and Willow sat around the living room.

"Our parents are so weird," Parker said. "Makes sense why we're so weird then," I said. "yeah that does make more sense, I tend to forget until we do these," Arizona said. "how do you forget?" Hannah said and we laughed.

"dinners ready!" Darry yelled over everyone. "Did mom mess anything up?" I joked walking into the kitchen. "Watch it missy," Mom said. "No she didn't," Darry said laughing. "What are we havin?" Jack asked. "Food," Dally and I said. "how am I not his daughter how am I yours?" I said turning to my dad and everyone laughed. Dad laughed and put his arms on my shoulder.

"I ask myself that question sometimes too," He said and we all kept laughing. "ok can we eat now? I'm hungry," Chase and Two-Bit said. "yeah yeah eat," Mom said and everyone got plates and dished food.

"5 minutes! It took 3 hours to make and you pigs ate it in five minutes!" Mom said. "what's for desert?" Steve asked. "nothing! you sit there for three hours and think about the food you just devoured and maybe you can have cake!" Mom said and everyone laughed.

"so what games first?" Harry asked. "Football!" Parker said. "No! we just ate!" Lexi said. "I'm with Parker," Jack said. "Fine," I said. "I'm gonna read," Lexi said. "You do that lex," Hannah said.

"Teams?" Dally asked walking out. "The adults are playing?" Chase asked. "Yeah we'll go easy on the girls though," Steve said. "Like hell you will!" Mom and I said in unison.

"quarterbacks?" Ponyboy asked. "ME," Chase and I yelled. "Ok pick," Dad said. "Dally," I said. "Sawyer," Chase said. In the end my team had Dally, Dad, Parker, Jack, Darry, Arizona, and Two-Bit. Chase had Johnny, Sawyer, Hannah, Harry, Steve, Mom, and we forced Lexi to play so she was on his team as well. The others didn't wanna play.

"You're going down Curtis!" Harry yelled at me. "There's like 5 Curtis's over here Combs!" I yelled back. "Shut up!" He yelled back and we laughed. Since I was smart and picked most the male adults my team won.

After we played a bunch of card games once Ollie and Willow went to sleep. After mostly everyone left Harry Arizona and I watched Mickey Mouse with Uncle Two-Bit. Eventually we all fell asleep.
