Chapter 9: First Matches

Seigaku was going up against Gyokurin today. I heard the Echizen and Momoshiro would have to play Doubles 2. Echizen didn't look like a doubles player. Also, I didn't think that he had the experience.

The team went to check in. Tezuka was popular among the girls. They didn't know that I was engage to him though. We tried to keep that to ourselves. I heard from Inui that Seigaku did very well in the District Preliminaries. I could see players from other schools around us. I thought they would be a bit surprise to see a freshman as a regular. Seigaku didn't normally have freshman as regulars unless they were extraordinary. I knew that Echizen had alot to show.

We went to our tennis court. First match was with Echizen and Momoshiro. They had a strategy called Ah-Un strategy. I knew that there was no such thing. In the beginning of the match, they seemed to do very well. In the middle of the match, they started to do bad. They kept getting in each other's way. Later on, they decided to play as singles by dividing the court. This helped them very well. They could focus on their side of the courts. They won their game. Ryuzaki-sensei scolded them though.

Next game was our Golden Pair, Oishi and Kikumaru. They did well as usual. Singles games came after doubles. Kaidoh played singles. Kawamura would be playing singles. He's scary when he holds a racket. He looked like a different person. Fuji won his tennis match easily. He was a prodigy after all.

I was with Tezuka watching a tennis match. Fuji was with us as well. He always gave us a smile when we were together. "We're playing Mizunohuchi after lunch," Fuji said. "Yea," Tezuka said. I heard a different voice. "Tezuka and Fuji." I turned my head to see a tennis player walking towards us. "Are you gathering the enemies information?" he said. He started talking about the reason why Tezuka didn't play against Gyrokurin. I didn't like the guy. I knew about Tezuka's injured elbow. "Let's go Fuji, Miyu," Tezuka said. He pushed my small back to guide me away from the guy.

I felt Tezuka stop walking. I turned to see the guy grabbing on to his left arm. {His arm!} "Why don't you show your arm, you have a reason to hide it right? he asked. "Let go," Tezuka said. He ripped his arm away from the guy's grip and we walked away from him. "Are you alright," I worried. "Yea don't worry Miyu," he said to me. "He really doesn't want you to worry Miyu," I heard Fuji said. I nodded my head.

We were playing against Fudomine. We were a bit confused. The other team that we thought that we were going against were runner up last year. Inui gave us a brief on each team member in Fudomine.

The Fudomine team was a bit rough when it came to playing style. Fuji and Kawamura were playing in doubles. Kawamura injured his wrist during the match. Fuji told the referee that they would forfeit the match. I could tell that Kawamura go hurt. I got some cooling spray for Kawamura. Kikumaru and Oishi managed to do very well in their match. The weather looked like that it was going to rain. Inui told Kaidoh to warm up. It started to rain.

I tried to cover my head. It was raining hard. Tezuka came to me and wrapped his jacket around my shoulders. He put his hand on my back and guided me at the seats. I was a bit wet, but not too much. He cared about my well being a lot. I had my portable heart monitor with me. Oishi came over to see with Ryuzaki-sensei. Everyone was curious about what was going on. "Its normal for now," Tezuka said in relief. Oishi and Ryuzaki-sensei looked relieved as well. Kaidoh's match was suppose to be next, but it was raining. Ryuzaki-sensei came and told everyone that we had to wait and see if the rain would lighten up.

While we waited, Inui told the line up in singles matches. Tezuka would be playing in singles one. He would be against Captain Tachibana. I sat next to him. I still had his jersey on me. "Are you alright Asada-chan," Fuji asked. "I'm fine," I said with a smile. We waited for the sky to clear up.
