Chapter 29: Wait for the Match

So much had happen for the past few weeks. We had won against Jyousei Shounan, went to a bowling alley, played billiard, went to Chiba, and beat Rokkaku.

Kunimitsu emailed me as often as he could. He would tell me how much he had progressed in his rehab. I told him about my doctors appointments. So far, I have improved much since I came to Japan.

The final match for the tournament had arrived so quickly. It was raining a lot today. I wasn't so sure that the match would go as planned by the officials. We all met at the location of the match. Ryuzaki-sensei went to check with the officials to see their decision due to the rain.

Tachibana's sister Ann and a Fudomine player Kamio came to the match. They claimed to be getting information. Tachibana got an injury during a match with Kirihara. They had gave many warnings about Rikkaidai players.

I saw Ann looking at something so angrily. We all turned to see three Rikkaidai players, Sanada, Yanagi, and Kirihara. They were soaked, but it didn't bother them. They were looking at us.

After a while, Sanada and Yanagi turned to leave but, Kirihara stepped forward to walk towards us. He stopped in front of Fuji. I stood from my seat. I didn't feel comfortable.

Kirihara said that Fuji was Seigaku's ace since Kunimitsu was gone. Momoshiro got mad at what Kirihara said and went to try to him him, but Fuji stopped him. Kirihara talked to Ann and he was just rubbing wounds. "Not only Seigaku, but now Fudomine has a retired captain too. Tachibana-san and Tezuka-san...must have been practicing way to lightly," Kirihara said. I didn't like the way he was talking to us.

"What did you say?! I'll tell you something, you bastard!" Momoshiro said angrily and proceeded to fight Kirihara, but Oishi held him back. "An injury during a match is the person's own fault," Kirihara said. Momoshiro was still wanting to fight.

Kirihara turned to me. "I'm am so sorry for talking about Tezuka-san like that. I hope that I didn't offend you," he said with sarcasm. I didn't like his tone of voice. I felt my heart rate spike a bit. No pain though. I saw Momoshiro getting more angry and some of the other regulars.

"Kirihara."

I saw Sanada behind Kirihara. "Sanada-san," Kirihara answered. "What are you doing? Hurry up and come to the meeting place," Sanada asked. "I'll be right there," Kirihara said to him. He turned to us. He claimed that he was introducing himself. He started to walk away.

I saw Momoshiro talking. He wanted to say a few words since Kirihara did. Sanada said that it was not necessary. Momoshiro got mad. Sanada turned to us. "It's something you'll understand only when you play us. Without Tezuka, you have no chance of beating us. And even if you had Tezuka...the result will be the same," he said. In a way, he was a bit worse than Kirihara.

Sanada turned to me. "May I speak to you privately," he asked. I nodded my head cautiously. I took my umbrella and walked out into the rain. Sanada and I went several feet away from everyone. "Why did you want to talk to me?" I asked. "I'm am sorry to see his injury. I hope you are alright," he said. I nodded my head. "I heard about your engagement to Tezuka from my grandfather. Is that true?" he asked. "Yes. Please keep it to yourself though," I said. He nodded his head. "That is all," he said. We walked back to the group.

They started to walk away. I just stared at them walking away. The regulars asked why Sanada wanted to talk to me in private. I told them that I would tell them another time. I tried to calm my heart down.

The rain hadn't lighten up and most likely today's matches would be cancelled. Ryuzaki-sensei confirmed my thoughts. It was postponed for a week. We decided to go to the gym at school. Everyone was training so hard. I was still mad though. I didn't see Fuji and Echizen anywhere at practice.

Fuji came a while later. He had to run 30 laps and then he could start his practice.

Next day...

Echizen was different today. His playing was way off than normal. I know what was bothering him.

Next day...

Ryuzaki-sensei and Oishi thought of doing a training camp to prepare for the finals against Rikkaidai. I thought it would be a great idea. They got permission from school. "After finals, everyone will attend make-up classes instead," Ryuzaki-sensei said. I was fine with the idea. I told them that I wouldn't go because of my doctors appointment.
