Chapter 23: Obstacle Ahead

Next day....

Today was Sunday. I woke up from the sun shining through the window. I looked at the time. it was 7:30 am. I was shocked to see that I slept a bit more than usual. I saw a note on my nightstand.

Miyu

I went with Oishi to figure out our placement for the Kantou Regional Tournament. Sorry that I didn't wake you up. You looked tired and needed more sleep. I will be back soon.

Love Kunimitsu

I set the note on the nightstand and washed up. I got dressed and went to the kitchen for breakfast. After breakfast, I waited for Kunimitsu to return. I wanted to finish reading the book that Kunimitsu recommended to me. I found it interesting.

Kunimitsu came into the room. I turned to him with a smile. "Welcome home, Kunimitsu," I said. I notice that he wasn't saying anything. I frowned. "Whats wrong?" I asked. I walked up to him and put a hand on his cheek. "Speak to me," I said. He took my hand off his face and held it.

"Is it about the Kantou Regional placement?" I asked. He nodded his head. "Who are we facing?" I asked. "Hyotei," he said. I froze in place. I remembered in my dream that Kunimitsu got hurt by a player who was from Hyotei. I felt my heart rate go up. It didn't feel too good.

"Miyu?!" I hear. It brought me out of my thoughts. "Whats wrong?" he asked. I told him my dream. This made Kunimitsu worried about her. "I will be fine," he said. I nodded my head. He told me that he was able to beat the captain of Hyotei.

"Promise me that you will be careful," I said. "I promise," he said. I rest my head against his chest and he embrace me. I felt my heart rate going down. This was what I needed. I felt his lips on my forehead. He knew how to comfort me.

{Please let nothing happen to him.}

Next day....

We we at the courts. Ryuzaki-sensei told everyone that the placement for the Kantou Regional Tournament had been decided. Everyone was determined to practice harder. I could see the regulars practicing very hard. Echizen didn't seemed to be phased by the placement.

Next day...

It was time for the tournament. We made it to the location to wait for the regulars to show up. It was weird that Oishi wasn't the third person to get here. "He's late," I said. He was never late for a tournament. Ryuzaki-sensei got in touch with him. It turned out that Oishi was helping an actual pregnant lady who was in labor. Momoshiro ran to switch places with him but, Momoshiro came back with Oishi's jersey. It meant that Momoshiro would replace him.

We didn't have the golden pair this time. Momoshiro was to be paired with Kikumaru. They were playing doubles 2. During the match, Oishi came in time. He had injured his wrist. With luck, they won their game. Inui and Kaidoh were next but, they lost due to Inui's lack of data. Kawamura was next. He and his opponent couldn't play anymore due to their hands and they were at their limits. They had blood on their rackets.

Fuji's match was next. He did very well. He showed off his signature moves. I saw Kunimitsu walked off after Fuji's match. Soon, it would be his match against Hyotei's captain again. I looked at the Hyotei side and I was shocked to see the guy that looked like in my dream. "It can't be..." I whispered. The Hyotei team chanted his name, Atobe.

I felt a hand on my shoulder. I jumped a bit and turned to see Kunimitsu a bit concern for me. I had a frown on my face. Everyone gave us some space. Kunimitsu embraced me. "I promise to be careful," he whispered in my ear. I nodded into his chest. He was trying to comfort my heart before the match. It was working.

I took a peek. I saw Hyotei looking at us confused. The regulars were happy and smiling. I was reluctant to let go. Kunimitsu wrapped his jersey on my shoulder and went onto the court. I tried to stay calm as much as possible for my health sake.

The match begun.
