The Babysitting Job- Loki x Reader story

Chapter 10

Y/n's POV
     
I wake up in Tony's spare bedroom, confused about the night before. All of the memories come flooding back as I try to stand up. I become dizzy and have to sit down again.

Bruce comes into my room and checks my pulse.
"Hey y/n how are you feeling?" Bruce asks. He always has been so kind to me and soft spoken.
"I feel like shit to be honest with you." I answer as he hands me a glass of water and aspirin. "Ok well I'm gonna fix that but do you remember anything from last night?" He asks me. Tony has also come in and sits on the edge of my bed.                                                     

I think about the events last night for a moment.
"Where's Loki?" I ask.
"He left last night y/n. Tell me, did he push you off? Because we can do something else with him if he attempted to kill you in front of us." Tony says. Did he push me off? It's all blurry and I cant remember.

"I don't remember. All I remember was dancing with him and then running out after pissing him off. Then he chased me out of the house and I-" I stop myself. Do I tell them the truth? That he chased me into a corner? It was my decision to jump, so he wouldn't get in trouble for that right? But why do I even care? Still, I decide to act like I dont remember and then maybe talk to Loki later about it.

"I don't remember I'm sorry. I just remember getting into the water and then being pulled ashore." I answer. Fair enough. Lokis  precious ego isn't busted and his ass isn't gonna get busted either. I'm the only one that's allowed to do that to him.
       
"Alright, well I have something I need to tell the entire team so is she able to go?" Tony asks Bruce.
"Well I don't know she still seems pretty out of it." He says cautiously.
"Or you could just ask her yourself." I said. They both look at me and I smile.

"On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the world's gonna end and one being a hit and run, how urgent is the news?" I ask.
"How about an 8.5." Tony says.
"I'll go. I feel fine I just will rest on the way there." I tell them, struggling to get up. Bruce helps me stand and I stretch. My back hurts like hell and I feel hungover. I walk out of the room to see Wanda sitting on the couch. She runs up and hugs me.

"Y/n I'm so sorry that I told you to control yourself. You should've killed him for what he did to you." I pull back.
"Woah, I never said that he did it to me. It was my decision to jump off." I tell her. Does everyone think that he pushed me off? Wanda furrows her eyebrows.
"I thought he shoved you and then you pulled yourself out." I raise my eyebrows.

"No, he jumped in after me and saved me. I would've drowned if it wasn't for him. Still, it's not like I'm gonna run up and hug him for it." She is about to ask something when Tony tells us to get in his car because we need to go. I walk out and see my shoes still out in the yard. I walk over and grab them.

"What happened to my dress?" I ask.
"It got torn and drenched so I ordered you a new one." I smile and we get into the car.
        
On the drive, Wanda asks me what happened. I don't tell her what he said while we danced because I want to keep that to myself. I hate myself for how I feel about him, but he did save me, so I have to not loathe him entirely for that.

I tell her what i did and how he chased me. I then tell her how I jumped and he saved me. I'm careful not to have Tony and Bruce hear because for some reason I know that would make Loki put back up a wall that was taken down last night at the shore.

After I can't remember anything else, she tells me how they watched Loki chase me out and how she gathered everyone to come and get me. She says that they ran down to the beach after seeing me fall and saw me unconscious with Loki next to me. She tells me that Steve picked me up and Loki chased after to see if I was okay. They put me in a room and everyone else left except for her and the other two. After telling me everything, we arrive at the tower.
       
I try to open a portal to skip the stairs but I'm still too weak from the night before. I have to suffer the stairs and almost pass out at the top. Tony opens the door and everyone comes up to me, giving me hugs and asking if i'm okay. This is why I love being a part of this group. We're family.

One strayed astray from this group, and as I walk out of the crowd to sit down, his eyes follow me. He looks like he hasn't slept at all and his green eyes check my face to see if I'm okay. I give him a slight nod and he looks away.

I don't have enough time to think about it because then Tony and Steve come up to the front of the group and begin.

"Well, first off, y/n is okay, she fell last night off of the cliff on accident but barely suffered any injuries." Loki looks straight at me and I look at him, confused. That isn't what I told Tony. Then I realize. Tony is protecting both Loki and I from embarrassment and for that I am thankful. Steve continues.

"We have a new mission. Most of us will be going to the outer regions and looking at the reports that have been sent from Captain Marvel. These reports range from someone's power going out for a month to a town being electrocuted. We don't know what it is and could be a very large thing. This thing has been going on in many planets and is coming closer to Earth.  We will need to check it out maybe for a long period of time." I raise my hand.

"What y/n?"
"What do you mean by 'most'?" I ask.
"Well, that's what we need to talk to you about." Steve says and asks me to go to another room with him.

"Y/n, after what happened last night, well, we need someone to watch out for Loki-" I interrupt him.
"What?!? I got over him staying at my house but this? Now you're saying I have to stay here and watch him while you guys do heroic shit?" I'm mad at both Steve and Loki.

"We were already planning on putting someone in watch over him, and you seem to be the strongest candidate. If you need to, then you can get into his mind and make him relax." I turn to leave when he puts a hand on my shoulder and turns me around.

"Look, Thor can't watch him because he can use his lightning to attract the monster. You have dealt with people like this before. We really need you to be here." He tells me. I put my head down and look at my shoes that Nat got for me. I sigh.

"There's no getting out of this is there?" Both Tony and Steve shake their heads.
"So we're done here? I guess I can leave now since, you know, I can't go on the mission now?" I say, not hiding the bitterness I feel. Tony nods and they follow me out of the room.

Wanda looks at me worried. She can tell I'm mad. I start to walk out the door when Tony stops me.
"Uh aren't you forgetting someone?" I turn back at him. Everyone is looking at me confused. I groan.
"Loki, come on we're leaving." He stands but furrows his eyebrows.
"I beg your pardon?" He asks. My frustration boils over at his stupid politeness.

"Well if you're dying to know, I'm not going on the mission because I have to babysit you! So come on we're leaving!" I slam the door in his face.

     This is going to be a long few months.
