Geillis Duncan. The woman who was supposed to be burned at the stake.
I quickly looked around and pulled Eilidh near me.
Lord John who saw my shock turned aswell. He looked worried at me.
"I'm so sorry, I...." mine breathing turned panicked. "You'll have to excuse me. I believe I've seen a ghost,"
I looked in the direction where Geillis had walked and then quickly pushed Eilidh as Arabella the other way towards the exit where the carriages where waiting.
"Whit's wrong mama?" Eilidh asked worried.
"Nothing, nothing," mine hands who laid on her back where shaking. "We'll just go back home,"
"Milady?" Fergus stopped me. "Is there something wrong Milady?"
"No I'm fine," I squeezed out of my throat. "Tell Jamie we are going home and that he is right about those ghosts,"
He looked puzzled at me but I walked passed him and helped Arabella and Eilidh in the carriage when I saw her again.
"Stay here for a few minutes," I ordered the driver and the girls and followed Geillis into the Gardens until I found her.
"Off all the gin joints in all the towns in all of the world," she started but I stopped her.
"What in the Devils name are you doing here?" I fired at her. "You where supposed to be burned,"
"I escaped the Pyre," she shrugged her shoulder. "You'll recall I was with child back in Cranesmuir."
"Of course," I felt numb and panicked. Atleast Eilidh was far away from her.
"Well.." she smiled. "It was the wee ratling that saved my life. They had for the bairn to come before they could carry out the sentence," I took a deep breath. "He was innocent, ye see,"
"They kept you in the thieves' hole that entire time?" It was not a question out of worry. That bitch deserved far worse than that.
"Three months," she answered.
"And Dougal took it?" I asked and she nodded.
"Yes and he helped me escape," she wanted to walk me further into the garden but I didn't wanted to walk further away from my daughter. "I was right about you."
"Yes and although you dragged me into your shit. You still saved my life. I want to thank you for it," I said and she smiled.
"No thanks," she smiled again. "Your here with Jamie I saw and a wee lass?" She looked at me.
"His niece," I lied easly. "We are looking for her brother. He's been kidnapped." I didn't know why I told her this but it seemed easy enough. "We think he might be sold into slavery," she gasped in fake horror.
"Can I help?" She asked. "I can ask around by my slaves. I own a lot down at Rose Hall,"
I grimaced at those words. "No need," I fake smiled. "I have to go back now,"
Without a word a walked away from her right into the arms of Jamie who was talking with Lord John.
"Mò gràdh? Fergus 'n' John tellt me ye felt unwell." He looked at me with an questioned look.
"I'm fine," I lied and then I saw him froze.
"Geillis?" He whispered and I turned around. Geillis had followed me but her look was more turned onto something else.
She walked over to Lord John and grasped the Sapphire. "How did ye get this?"
"Well it was found on an Island off the coast in Scotland a few years ago," Lord John answered as he pulled it away from her. "It was given to me by a friend," he looked at Jamie.
"Given tae ye by a prisoner," Jamie politely smiled back.
"Well, I tend to omit that detail," he smiled again towards Geillis.
"Fascinating," she snapped back. "If ye excuse me I have to go," with out a proper goodbye she walked away.
"She is a touch strange, isn't she?" Lord John asked but Jamie was more focused on me.
"Did she saw Eilidh?" He asked worried and I nodded.
"Told her she was your niece. She is now waiting in the carriage," I looked at Lord John. "If you excuse me. Eilidh is waiting for me and I have to go home with her," I made a small bow and Jamie looked at me. "Stay here Jamie we will be fine," I pressed a kiss on his cheek. "I know where your dagger is," I whispered in his ear.
"Be canny mò gràdh," he whispered back.
I nodded and then walked back towards the carriage where Eilidh was anxiously waiting.
But before I could step in I saw three men arrive on horse. I swore loudly.
The night hadn't brought us enough Ghosts since another also appeared.
