We followed Lord John into his private quaters. Where he finally loosend up a bit.
He wanted to walk to Jamie like he wanted to give him a hug but stayed in place. "What a joy to see you," he directly said towards Jamie and I stayed where I stood near the door. "Are you quite alright?"
"Is Willie 'ere?" Jamie asked straight away and Lord John looked at me. "She kens."
"No. He's not with me." Lord John answered. "I only arrived here a month ago, Isobel and Willie will join me in the summer, when the journey's less daunting."
I looked at Jamie and saw dissapointment in his face. At the same time I placed my hand on mine lower belly, where I still wondered if our child was growing in.
But this child couldn't replace the hole that Willie had left in Jamie' heart, no matter how many childeren I would give him.
In the mean time the men had discussed Willie's wellbeing. The young boy was now one and a half and by the believes of his "father" quite a hand full. The room fell silent and I felt it getting uncomfortable in the room.
Jamie smiled and I walked over him placing my hand on his arm.
"So how did you become governor of Jamaica?" I asked Lord John and he smiled politely.
"By malediction, I believe," he answered. "This clammy Isle is the terminus in a number of posts and so-called promotions," he smiled. "Though I can ask you the same for you. What brings you so far from home?" He asked Jamie but I answered.
"Our nephew Michael Murray kidnapped. We have source that told us he is brought here," I stood closer to Jamie and Lord John looked at me.
"What can I do to help?" He asked straight away and I looked at him again from Jamie.
"Could you, introduce us to some off the landowners. Some with," I hardly could get the word slaves over mine lips. "With indentured servants," I swallowed.
"Ofcourse," he answered again straightaway. "But that could be all of that?"
"We hae somebody talking tae yer servants. In hawp we cuid fin' some mair speirins," Jamie answered and I looked in suprise to him. Beside Fergus, Arabella and Eilidh I had no clue we brought somebody else.
"What ever I can do," Lord John promised and I saw Jamie sport his familiar half smile before he froze and looked at the hight of Lord John's waist.
Where a beautiful sapphire sparkled.
Lord John followed his look.
"Is that?" Jamie asked and Lord John revealed it in full.
"Indeed it is," he confirmed. "The sapphire you gave me at Ardsmuire," he suddenly stuttered and I looked with raised eyebrows at Jamie. "I wear it to...." he looked at me. "To remember our friendship," he quickly hide it.
I looked at Jamie once more who smiled.
"Excuse me I must return to my guests," he nodded. "I'll find you shortly," he laughed shortly. "My god. It's good to see you again," he bowed and made a reference as he walked away.Me and Jamie quickly mingled with the guests and as Jamie walked away with somebody I joined Eilidh and Arabella who where standing near the food table a bit uncomfortable.
"Who was that mama?" Eilidh asked as she nodded in Lord John direction who watch us.
"An old family friend I guess," I took a sip of mine champagne and suddenly he stood behind me.
"I see they've put out the champagne," he said and I turned around. "Ladies," he bowed towards Eilidh and Arabella who sniggered and even blushed.
"Yes, would you like some or brandy?" I looked at the table.
"Brandy please," he smiled and I poured him a glass and gave it to him a bit uncomfortable.
"You remembered me from before the rising." He noticed.
"Yes, you defended mine virtue in a barn," I smiled and he laughed aswell.
"Come now, we both know your virtue was not in jeopardy," he took a sip and I blushed a little.
"No it wasn't," I thought back of that day.
"Jamie told you about Willie?" He noticed again.
"Yes and his Mother. Your wed to her sister I believe," I smiled politely back.
"He has told you a great deal," Lord John seemed embarrassed and suprised.
"Well we don't have secrets," I took a sip of the champagne. "That is a really beautiful sapphire." He looked at it. "Jamie gave that to you?" I couldn't help but to feel a bit jealous.
"Yes," he answered honest but when he saw my face he quickly changed it. "Although to be honest, he didn't actually give it to me. He surrendered it after he'd escaped." He licked his lips. "He found it after he was searching for you," I took a deep breath. "He believed you might had come back to him. And... now you have." Again the dissapointment in his voice.
"Yes," I smiled. "I did."
He looked at me and then he looked away. "Well, it certainly is a pleasure to finally meet the love that was his....." he struggled with words. "Every heartbeat."
I smiled and looked away from him. But then I froze when I saw a ghost walking into the room.
