I looked in pain as I saw the trembeling fingers of my wife trying to get her skirt lose.
"Let me help you misstress," the female servant stepped forward and Skye immediately sat a step back.
"Ah hulp her," I said, the servant nodded and left the room.
I walked towards Skye and held out my hand. "It's a'richt," I repeated and she nodded shakingly. Still not in the room and with her head in the cave.
I realised how close I was there. I could have lost her again if I hadn't stopped her.
The skirt fell on the floor and I quickly undressed her completely. As soon as she was naked, I noticed that the area around her belly was a bit swollen. But I didn't want to mention it.
I lifted her bridal style up and let her sink in to the warm water of the bathtube.
She letted out a soft moan and she closed her eyes. Carefully I filled the stone jar with water and poured it over her back.
She froze in shock again and then she relaxed.
"Ah Dia Skye," I whispered and I filled the jar again. I let her look at me and then she leaned her head back and I poured it over her hair.
A small bottle of shampoo laid next to the bath and I poured it rich over her hair as I massaged it.
"Do you ever learn to live with it?" She suddenly said with a hoars voice. "That you killed someone?"
"Na," I answered honestly and I washed the shampoo out of her hair. "Never,"
She took a shaking breath and then she leaned with her head against mine chest.
"How is Michael?" She asked and I let mine hands wander down to her shoulders and massaged them.
"Guid, in shock aswell, bit guid," I answered and I felt her shoulders relax a bit.
"How did he knew my real name?" Skye sank deeper into the bath as if she wanted to drown herself.
"Jenny likelie let it slip. Or he heared it fae me," I kissed her wet hair. "Bit please Mò Ghràdh dinnae break yer heid ower it?"
"She knew my name," Skye whispered. "She made me tell the truth," I noticed a tear falling from her eyes and I quickly whisked it away. "And I killed her,"
"Shhhttt Mò Ghràdh," I walked around the bath and sat infront of her. "Ye saved Mìcheal 'n' oor Daughter."
She said something in Dutch but I didn't bother to ask her what. Instead I decided to caress her cheek and she leaned towards mine hand.
"Please bring me back," she begged me and I knew she didn't mean back home or to the ship but back to herself. To the person she was before the cave but I knew that she would never be that person again.
Time would let it fade away but she would always carry it in her back of her mind like I was carring the scars on my back and hand.
