Chapter 38: Godric's Hollow
Merielle sat outside, leaning against the trunk of a tree. They were taking it in turns to keep watch, and it was currently her shift. She closed her eyes and replayed Harry and Ron's fight. Clearly, it was one of the most heated arguments the two of them ever had. Merielle spent most of her time comforting Hermione, although sometimes she knew that her friend needed time to herself. She took out the mirror and angled it this way and that, watching Harry out of the corner of the mirror. He was standing behind her, with his back facing her. Hermione was inside the tent.
There was the crackle of static, then she heard the radio. Merielle sighed. Everyday, the news was the same. Voldemort's power rising...Death Eaters taking further control...the new changes in the Ministry...Snape's control over Hogwarts...the list of deaths that just seemed longer and longer each day. Nothing good, unless you counted the fact that Merielle had yet to hear a name on the list of confirmed deaths that she recognised. Then, a song came on, and she smiled briefly as it began to play. Harry ducked into the tent, and she saw the shadow of her two friends as they slowly danced together. She smiled. Merlin knew the two of them needed time together.

Hermione was sitting outside. Merielle and Harry were in the tent. They looked up as Hermione ducked in.
"Look at what I found," she said, flipping open the copy of Beadle and the Bard. She pointed to a symbol drawn above the title of a story.
"It doesn't look part of the book," said Merielle slowly, "It looks like someone's drawn it in."
"At first I thought it was a picture of a triangular eye, but now I don't think so. It's not a rune and it's not in Spellman's Syllabary either. And you're right Ella -someone's drawn it in."
"Wait...isn't that the same symbol Luna's dad was wearing around his neck, at Bill and Fleur's wedding?" The two girls frowned.
"Wearing it?" repeated Merielle.
"Yeah, around his neck. Like an amulet. I didn't think much of it at the time. You know Luna -she's always got some mad thing or the other she's carrying around. I just figured it ran in the family."
"Yes, I remember it now," nodded Hermione.
"Then it's Grindelwald's mark." The two girls gasped.
"Grindelwald's mark?" repeated Hermione.
"Well, Krum reckoned it was carved on the wall at Durmstrang, and Grindelwald put it there."
"But what would a symbol of Dark Magic be doing in a children's book?" asked Merielle, perplexed. They fell silent, musing over it.
"Hermione, Ella, I've been thinking..."
"Yes?" Merielle asked.
"I want to go to Godric's Hollow," said Harry firmly, "It's where I was born, it's where my parents died-"
"-and it's exactly You-Know-Who would expect you to go. Because it means something to you," argued Hermione.
"But it means something to him too. You-Know-Who nearly died there. Wouldn't it be the sort of place he'd have hidden a Horcrux?"
"It's extremely dangerous," Merielle pursed her lips, "But you have a point. Recently, even I think we should go there. It's a likely place where Dumbledore might've hidden it."
