It was a year before she met the love of her life. A year before he found him and hope seeped through her dull life. As a young girl in the last year of middle school, Byeol was shy and unspoken. Mostly, she spent her time alone in classes and even in the cafeteria. Aside from the fact that she was socially awkward among people, she was extremely introverted and always felt like not talking with anyone.

Well, except her older sister, who was actually the opposite of her.

The two were basically inseparable. They weren't only sisters but best friends as well. Byeol's older sister, Moon Bora, accepted her for who she was. Whenever she went out to attend some parties with her circle of friends, she respected Byeol when she didn't want to come with her.

But who knew that a group of friends would taint her sister's mind?

The very same people who claimed to be her friends, made her turn her back away from her. Byeol never chose to blame her because she understood what she felt. The younger found herself occassionally questioning why she was the way she was.

"Partying somewhere again?" fourteen-year-old Byeol teased Bora, who was three years older than her, a playful snicker leaving past her lips.

"I'll be back soon, Byeol. Don't tell mom or dad, okay," Bora replied in a serious tone as she strapped her heels, not glancing at her little sister even for a second. She stood up and brush away some unwanted dirt on her sparkly knee-high dress.

The younger expected a farewell from her sister but instead she left, shutting the door close, leaving her alone, a loud silence beginning to ring in her ears.

Byeol sighed, turning away to go back to their shared bedroom, where they used to spend having late night talks until midnight.

She sat herself in front of her small study desk just beside her bed while she waited for their parents to come home from work. The sun had just begun to set, coloring the walls of their bedroom red-orange. The weather set her in a mood so she grabbed a pencil and her secret notebook, where she wrote poems whenever she felt like it, then began to scribble some words in silence.

Byeol's heart began to pound against her chest, her hands clasped together, as she skimmed her eyes across the bulletin board, hoping to find her name written on it.

Please, please, please, she chanted over and over again.

Then she gasped and squealed unintentionally in delight upon seeing her name on the board.

Poetry Writing Contest Winners.

First place: Moon Byeol.

She pumped her fist in the air in victory and in happiness. She was thankful that nobody was there nearby witnessing her cringe-worthy cheering because otherwise, she would feel extremely embarrassed.

One person went in her mind immediately and she hastily took her phone out to take a picture of the results in front of her as evidence in case her sister didn't believe her because in fact, it was unbelievable. Being able to win a poetry writing contest was a miracle to Byeol, what more to others?

She ran until she reached the building where there were more students flooding around the hallways. It was their school's foundation week and surprisingly, Byeol enjoyed it more than ever because of one reason: winning the contest.
