~*Link's point of view*~
I lay sleeping in my blue single bed, as the bird's good morning songs began to wake me from my slumber. I slowly fluttered my eyelids until my pupils dilated to the light. I sat up and stretched out my tired body, as I gave a loud yawn. Every morning now had become a struggle for me. It was the same every day now. I'd wake up, go hunt my breakfast, and exclude myself from everyone. Exploring had suddenly become dull, and exhausting to me. So I spent most of my time indoors, reading all of the books I owned, or had found in Hyrule's ruins. I had recently found a bunch of cookbooks that seemed to be packed full of delicious looking recipes. I was hoping to make a dish from one today. Cooking seemed to be the only thing left I was interested in doing lately.
I stood up from my bed, and opened the white curtains hiding the window to let in some warm sunlight. I quickly put together an outfit, and headed out to get the ingredients needed for the new dish I wanted to prepare. As I walked the dirt pathway down the steep hill heading to the little pond to fish, a few friendly neighbors waved to me. I gave them a quick one back before proceeding in my direction, in the hopes none of them would try and start a conversation with me and talk my ear off about their life.
When I made it to the fresh gushing, running water, I let out a sigh of relief. No one tried to follow me. I began to set up my fishing nets as I heard footsteps coming from behind me. I pursed my lips together, holding in my breath in the hopes they wouldn't hear, or see me. But of course, I had already been spotted...
"Hey, you there! Fine looking young lad. May I have a word with you?" He called out to me. I cringed at the words he used, as I debated whether or not I should continue to ignore him. After deciding to see what he wanted due to my curiosity, I set my net aside, and turned around to face him.
"I'm new to this village, and I have nothing to prepare myself a proper breakfast, nor the knowledge to get my own ingredients. If you could fix me up something to eat, I will pay you for it all. Are you willing to help me out?" The man asked, a huge stuffed backpack sagged from it's heaviness across his back. I looked him over a few times debating his request. Someone asking me to make them breakfast, but offering to pay me? This is new. I thought to myself, before giving him a nod, and reaching out my hand to accept.
"Excellent! I had a feeling you'd fulfil my request!" He said giving my hand a firm shake in return, as a sly smile creased his lips. It made me a little uneasy, so I quickly turned from the one sided conversation, and pulled my nets back up to myself to finish knotting them.
"That's one fine looking fishing net! I'd love to get one myself to catch a batch of those beautiful Hylian Bass. Only, I don't know how to use one correctly..." He stated, plopping on the ground next to me to watch. I gripped the fishing net tightly in my grasp, a little agitated that he planned to stay and watch my every move from here on out.
"You know, when I was a boy, I'd always watch my father fish. He was so great at his job, I wished to be just like him when I grew old." He spoke again, letting out a happy chuckle. Is he going to start telling me of his whole past now? Why does everyone come searching for me to do this if I don't even reply? Oh, I believe I answered my own question...
"I had asked me to teach him, but sadly... He never got the chance to." My knot tying began to slow, as I suddenly became interested in hearing his story. I turned to him and gave him a look to let him know I was listening. Then he continued.
