“I wonder what your favorite song would sound like.”
CHAPTER 16
the Rock Song, the EDM Track, and the Lullabythe Rock Song
“CAN YOU hear yourself well? Did you hear everything you said?”
Ria continued to stare at the old man with eyes now bloodshot. She tried so hard not to blink that her eyes now stings. She forced herself to look away at his cold, uninterested eyes. She felt like her efforts will all go down to drain if she continues to stare longer.
“Can you really do that? When I killed your mother?”
“I should have!” Ria stomped on her feet. She bit her tongue to stop herself from shouting. “I should have killed you then.”
“That’s it, my daughter. That is what you should say to me, and not some bullshits you started with.” The old man’s eyes crinkled. The corners of his mouth slowly curled upwards. “You’re making your father proud.”
-----
“YOU REALLY won’t tell me?”
Ria put down the phone next to her on the sofa after turning on speaker mode. Gabriel, the one on the other line didn’t talked. Instead, a sound of a sizzling oil is what she can hear on the other side. “You’re cooking? For whom?”
“For myself?” Ria heard Gabriel shout. She figured he turned speaker phone too. “Is there an unwritten rule or something saying one can’t cook for himself?”
“No, of course. Cooking for yourself is a good thing. That’s a good lesson for today.”
The cooking sound finally went down. Gabriel stopped talking loud too. “Did something happen?"
"Why did you ask as if you knew?"
"You're not as energetic as usual. And I didn't knew. I just guessed."
Ria chuckled. The clanging of utensils on the other line also made her smile. "You’re making me want to fix a proper dinner for myself too. Well to answer your question, yes. Something definitely happened. So can you make me feel better and finally tell me about it now?."
"I told you I won't be selling our story."
"Why do you always put it that way seriously?"
Gabriel then apologize while chuckling. He then went on. "I really can't tell you anything. But there's something I can give you."
Raindrops sound took over Gabriel’s voice on the other line. That's when Ria noticed the rain outside.
"Coffee is perfect on a day like this, isn't it?"
"Is there an exact reason why we always meet for coffee?" Ria asked while sipping from her cup. She's apparently directing her question to Gabriel in front of her, but her eyes are on the rain outside the coffee shop that’s starting to stop.
"Why? You think there is?"
"You couldn't think of any reason too, right? Then I guess there's really nothing to it."
"But if you think of it..."
Ria faced Gabriel. He looks like he's deep in thoughts. "Why you're not finishing your sentence? I'm waiting."
"Since you asked that, I thought there could be really something into it. So I tried to find a reason to it." Gabriel’s eyes focused on her. She tilted her head sideways, antcipating. "But still, I can't think of any."
