“My life revolves around these two things: something I’ve seen many times before but still feels unfamiliar, and something so true but seemed like a lie. And I think it’ll be three from now on; something so new, and something so confusing. "

Chapter 1
the Oblivious, the Obvious, and the Weird

the Oblivious

THE night is still young and his colleagues are out drinking on a beer house near their office but he is already on his way home. A single career man in his late 20’s, tall, a bit thin but still masculine and dresses well, aside from the fact that he hates parties and beers and women, it is a surprise to see him live in a cheap apartment complex that is only 3 months away from its demolition date. Its just that he leaves an impression as someone well-off.

This place is ought to be renovated. To match the tall luxury buildings especially the condominium complex that costs millions per unit across the street.

His unit is in the third floor. The first and second floors are almost empty and too dark for anyone to see that he have to turn on the flashlight of his phone. The tenants are slowly moving out and the place is slowly being abandon. Of course he has to move out too. But he couldn’t find any place cheaper than this old, rusty, and rotting building.

He reached the third floor and found a woman leaning at his door. The only light turned on in this floor is the one at the end of the alley but the woman still wore her Bulgari glasses. The tapping from her Jimmy Choo shoes is the only sound you can hear but not for him, who is listening to a classical music on his earphones. He don’t know much about the music of the Baroque and Romantic and only knew the most famous names (he don’t even know who wrote the one playing on his earphones right now) but he loved the sound of it. And so this is the only music he listens to.

“Why did you not go in? I gave you a spare key.” he removed the shades from her eyes and put in her hands. Her tired, sleepy eyes met his. With that, they both knew they both had a long day.

“I waited for you.”

“You didn’t left the key?”

“That too.”

She stepped aside and let him open the door then both got inside. He put his bag at the top of the table and fixed the bed. “Here. Sleep.”

Though that was unexpected, she smiled and slowly slipped herself under the sheets. All while watching her childhood friend prepare his self for a quick shower.

“Gabriel,”

“Hmm?”

“You’re not asking me anymore now.”

“Why you’re here?”

“Yeah.”

“Maybe you’re tired today?” before entering the bathroom he turned to her. “Since that’s what you always say.”

“Sorry. This is only where I can get a good sleep. I can’t sleep well at my house and tomorrow I have —”

“Shhh,” he smiled. “Good night, Laisa.”

-----

GABRIEL finished showering after 10 minutes and Laisa is already fast asleep. Drying his hair with a towel, he fixed Laisa’s blanket and turned off the lights leaving the lampshade on the table on. He sat there, on the table that also serves as a dining table and started working. Gabriel is a newly-hired proofreader at Han-ag Publishing, the best publishing of the year receiver through a special anniversary blind hiring. He is a dropped-out Journalism student, but he got the job purely by his interest in fictional romance books and perfectionism.
