“Seeing each other from afar, standing on places we could never leave. Those places are too far but we all wish it will overlap. So we could reach each other.”

CHAPTER 4
the Confident, the Wrong-footed, and the Mischief

the Confident

RIA’S eyebrows met. She definitely heard the male editor sitting across her say something but he denied. She asked because she couldn’t fathom what it is. “Do you know me perhaps?”

“No!” that came across as almost a shout that puzzled Ria. Though she know there is probably something up by this man, she decided to brush it off.

Sandra already left the room a long time ago. Snacks were served in front of them with a cup of coffee. Ria downed her cup.

“You really think that book will not be a best-seller? In what grounds?”

Taking a sip from his own cup, Gabriel answered. “The characters are adults but they all seemed like a teenager. The romance is there, but the love is weak. I think it was made to cater the young audience. But you know, teenagers don’t really buy books. They prefer digital copies.”

Gabriel took another sip, nodding. “Adults and the youngs may enjoy the book reminiscing their first love fantasies, but I don’t think everyone would like to do that.”

Never thought about it that way, Ria asked. “Why?”

“Because not all first loves are worth remembering.”

“Oh.” she blurted out while thinking “He maybe had it bad.”

Ria stood up and initiated a handshake which Gabriel immediately accepted. “I look forward to working with you.”

“Thank you so much.” Gabriel replied, head bowing a little.

NOT having the heart to go home straight yet nowhere to actually go to, Ria stayed on the building’s rooftop playing raindrops sounds through her phone. She blankly stared at the vehicles and people passing the road below her. Everything’s so small from her position to figure out anything happening which she loved. Maybe she will stop thinking what she used to if people will be this small in her eyes.

“You’re still obsess with raindrop sounds, huh?”

The voice from behind broke her peace. She know that voice.

“And you’re still bothered with it?”

“With the sun high up? Sure.”

The man stood next to Ria. Ria focused on the sound from her phone. “Will you keep on ignoring me?”

Pretending she can only hear her phone, she didn’t reply. He chuckled. “Are you that angry? I only did you a favor on publishing that book! Because I know you can’t.”

“You stole it!” she snapped. She turned off her music and faced him. “What are you getting at Christiano?”

“Christian S.” the man from her past corrected her.

“Sure, sure. Christian S.” her grip on her phone tighten. “You know what was that book for, what I was saving that book for? Shit.”

Christian smiled upon hearing her curse. “I’m finally getting on your nerves now.”
