“That incident in my life that made me look at the world a little darker,
do you think that’s still a lesson well learned?”Chapter 13
the Mentor, the Trainee, and the Bossthe Mentor
LAISA woke up from the sun rays hitting her face through the window. That made her a little nostalgic since she’s been waking up through an alarm clock these few months. She stood up from the bed and roam her eyes around the apartment she’s been refusing to go but still end up entering. Is he that in a hurry to leave without washing the dishes?
Laisa wore the rubber gloves from the kitchen cabinet and started washing the dishes. Gabriel is someone who hates leaving without cleaning up. Nothing is more urgent to him than washing the piling dishes on the sink.
It didn’t took Laisa long to finish the dishes. She was wiping the last plate when her phone rang. It was James.
"Good morning." Laisa stayed quiet. She heard a chuckle from the other line. "I guess this is one of those days again? All right. I'll do all the talking."
Laisa wiped her hands and turned off speaker mode. She brought the phone close to her ears.
“Celebrities don’t always tell the truth. You know that, right? That’s why listen to what I’m about to say next carefully. Because from now on, I will stop lying.”
Laisa went back to lying in bed. She closed her eyes while listening to James on the other line.
“I’m not that kind of person who deceives others but more like someone who deceives himself. You know why I wanted to be an actor? Because I want to act I had the perfect life. Quite different from what I said on interviews, right? I think maybe this is why I never accepted roles where I have to die in the end. Scripts like that always scares me.”
Laisa opened her eyes. Is this what he meant by “telling the truth”?
"I really wanted to say this to you in person, but I know I won't be able to take you out today. You--”
“Wait!”
That stopped James from talking. Laisa ditched the thought of staying at Gabriel’s the whole day.
“You are taking me out today. Let’s meet in an hour.”
-----
“I’M SORRY you had to come all the way here. Come in.”
“What are you saying? I think I’m thanking you today.”
James smiled and widened the opening of his apartment’s door. Laisa stepped in.
“Wow. Nice place.”
“Thanks.”
Laisa cozied herself on the couch. She watched James wear an apron on the kitchen. “What are you doing?”
James reached for the knife. He shrugged at Laisa. “Well, it’s almost lunch time.”
“Already? I still haven’t eaten breakfast.”
“Again? You always do that.”
“I just did recently.”
James nodded and started slicing the vegetables. He didn’t talk until he finished cooking.
“Thanks for the food!”
