“How I wish we can force things to people without them hating us.”
Chapter 7
the Bed, the Woman, and the Pillowthe Bed
AFTER that talk on the car’s bumper and under the pitch black sky, Gabriel offered to go inside. Laisa insisted on going home at first but she ended up obeying Gabriel. Gabriel will never let her drive at 2AM.
Side by side they went up to the third floor. The alley is dark as usual and there’s not even a moon or stars to help light the way but they chose not to use a flashlight. They walked slowly as they listen to their footsteps. It’s almost the same, almost as one.
They reached his door. Gabriel unlocked it. He went inside first and sat on the bed. Laisa stayed standing outside.
“What are you doing?”
“Would you mind…”
“Hmmm?”
It took a while for Laisa to answer. Gabriel waited patiently, as always.
“Would you mind if we sleep next to each other?”
Gabriel’s expression did not change. His eyes stayed fixed on Laisa that’s now restless.
“F-forget I said somethi--”
She stopped when she saw him tap the bed. Her eyes widened.
“What now? I won’t mind, Laisa.”
Gabriel watched as she slowly went inside and lock the door behind her. She also took off her heels. She walked to him with face red in embarrassment. He waited for her to arrive and let her lie down first. He lie down as well facing her.
“You don’t feel uncomfortable at all?”
Her face is still flushed but she stopped trying to hide it now that they’re inches apart. Gabriel went quiet, thinking.
“You’re thinking of it harder than I expected.”
“Yeah.”
A woman fantasize by everybody is lying next to him on his bed. But he can’t think of anything more than that. Nothing changed. His feelings stayed the same when they were still kids.
“Let’s sleep.”
Laisa sighed on Gabriel’s attempt on changing the conversation. Gabriel knew she’s disappointed. But how can he tell her his exact thoughts?
“I’m always comfortable with you, Laisa.”
“But why do I feel nervous around you?”
“How can you sleep if you’re nervous?”
“You--” she buried her face on her pillow and cursed. She calmed her self and faced him again.
“Then how do you feel right now?”
“Just…”
“What? Answer me!”
Gabriel gulped. He decided to be as selfish as he can.
“You’re just like a pillow. Laid next to me so I won’t feel alone.”
-----
“I really want to hate you.” that was the first words that came out from Laisa’s mouth since they woke up. Neither of them got a good sleep. Gabriel don’t know how many of those he received after only an hour, but he tried his best not to answer and proceed to his usual daily routine, which is first cooking them both breakfast. “Why are you not answering?”
