Chapter 8
the Brave, the Braver, and the Bravest

the Brave

YOU know that I hate you, right?”

Gabriel averted his eyes from Laisa and nodded. His hands are still on the doorknob that was from opening the door for Laisa that resorted to knocking than use her key to the house.

“But you know, I still can’t fully hate you even though I want to. That’s why I want you to make me resent you to the point I won’t be knocking on your door like this anymore.”

Laisa bumped on his shoulders as she made her way inside the apartment. She almost sat on the bed, but she stopped and sat on the floor instead.

“At least use a chair.” Gabriel dragged a chair for her but she didn’t even look at it. He left the chair by her side and sat on the other. “W-What should I do? I’m really so--”

“First of all, don’t apologize. You can be sorry all you want but don’t let me hear it.”

“I-I understand. What else can I do?”

Laisa stopped tapping her heels on the floor and met his quivering eyes. Her arms and legs stayed crossed.

“Stop being good to me.”

Gabriel’s eyes widened. She snickered.

“Listen to me before you give me that face, okay?”

Her phone rang so she took it out first. It was a text message from James Ford.

“I already got it settled. You’ll be getting a call soon.”

“See? I don’t even have to beg! I just need to ask and I don’t even have to say it twice but you? You got me begging. Without even me knowing.”

Both went quiet. Laisa closed her eyes as Gabriel stayed looking at the floor.

“I really thought I don’t show even a tiny bit of my feelings to you because I don’t want you to take responsibility for it. But my desperation on getting closer to you must have shown. That’s maybe how you came to know. But why you didn’t tell me? This is so fucking embarrassing.”

Gabriel’s head went lower. Laisa grunted upon seeing it.

“Is being poor made you lose all your confidence as a man? Why are you acting more embarrass than I am?!”

“Yes, I’m poor. That’s why I couldn’t like you.”

“And you’re saying the exact words I expected. Shit.”

Gabriel’s head stayed low. Laisa stood up from the floor and went to him and lifted his chin up. She showed him a smile.

“This thing I have for you, I held it in for so long I don’t what to do with it anymore. But I know what you should do. Stop being sorry unto me. This is my feelings. I’m the only one who should take responsibility for this.”

She took out the spare key Gabriel gave to her and returned it. “You know what I’m saying, right? But I still want to spell it out for you. I don’t expect anything from you. Maybe this is just me being pretentious or my pride talking but still, believe it. Why do you think I haven’t told you for the past 10 years?”

JUST like what James texted, Laisa got a call from the drama production team. But she didn’t expect it to be this soon as she got the call only 2 hours after James’ text.
