Chapter 5
the Unconscious, the Curious, and the Shakenthe Unconscious
TODAY is Gabriel’s day-off. He doesn’t have any work left and still have to wait for a while to start editing R.S Moon’s book so he had nothing to do. Sitting on the bed, he fixed his gaze on the closed door. He felt like someone will knock on his door anytime. Probably a package delivery, or just someone.
The door swung open. Though he was expecting, that still shocked Gabriel.
“I was gone for a week.”
Laisa declared, still standing outside. Gabriel, as if realizing it just now replied with “Yeah, right.”
“Is that all? You didn’t even call.”
“I’m sorry.” he gave her an apologetic look. “Please do come in.”
“You don’t have to tell me.” Laisa said in a whisper and closed the door behind. She didn’t walked in though and stayed standing near the door, eyes on her shoes.
Gabriel stood up and walked close to her. He held both of her hands and pulled her to a chair.
“Look. I’m very sorry. I was busy finding money.”
“Not like you never.” Laisa sounded so disappointed. He sighed.
“Today’s the due date and I’m short 3 thousand pesos.” Laisa’s eyes immediately landed to him upon hearing that, though she’s been avoiding his gaze until now. Gabriel shook his head, smiling a little. “Don’t worry. I already paid it.”
“How come you’re always short of money when you always work so hard?”
“Right.” his smile grew big. “And I told you not be sad for me! You sounded too sad just now.”
“We are friends, Gabriel.”
That made Gabriel’s smile stay on his face. He don’t have any friends aside from Laisa, but he knows she is the best friend he could ever have, or probably anyone could have. And he somehow thinks he is the only one too who has a friend like her. That’s why he always welcome her and always let her sleep at his bed. No matter what other people could say.
After everything she had done for him, it is only right for him to give her what she wants.
“What did you do the whole week?”
Gabriel started preparing lunch for them. He made use of the remaining 4 pieces of chicken found on the freezer.
“Home. My photoshoots and shootings were cancelled.”
“You lost it because of me?” that was not a question, but more like an apology. Laisa probably losing a deal after the scandal never came across his mind after she said everything is fine.
I should have been more careful. Laisa is not just my bestfriend.
“That’s not it!” she assured him upon seeing his grumbled face. “And I’m packed again starting tomorrow. And let me correct that. It wasn’t cancelled, but postponed.”
Somhow relieved, Gabriel nodded and continued cooking. Laisa did the table setting. After a while, a hot pot of chicken soup is served.
“I never knew I was craving for chicken.” Laisa commented happily helping herself with the food. Gabriel took off his apron and sat across her. He also poured soup on her plate.
