Chapter 12

Aliah's * POV *
I woke up and turned my alarm off. I walked into my bathroom and brushed out my hair. I curled my hair and brushed my teeth. I put on my make up and put on deodorant. I put on sweatpants, my grey loose crop top and my black converse. I put on my beanie and sprayed my perfume and ran downstairs. My mom left a note on the counter. " had to leave for work early. Love you " I read it out loud. I made some cereal and ran out the door.

I walked into school and went to my locker. Melina walked over and said " hey I have to talk to you later " I looked at her. " ok is it about you know.. " I said. She nodded and walked off. I closed my locker and went to my first period.

( 6th period )
In the middle of 6th period I heard the announcements come on. I zoned out the whole time until the said " can Aliah Paladino come down to the office for dismissal " wait I'm confused. I grabbed my stuff and walked down to the office. I walked in and asked the office ladies why I'm being dismissed. " your mom, um she's.... " the lady could barely even finish her sentence. " she's in the hospital. She got
shot. A lot. During an open shooting at her work. She's- " before she could finished I rushed out of the school. I was crying so much and stomach started to hurt. No. This isn't happening. No. I drove to the hospital as fast as I could.

* at the hospital *
I ran into the hospital and said " CINDY PALADINOS ROOM PLEASE HURRY " I was crying so much. The gave me her room number but the nurse ran after me. " you can't go in her room! " I just ran up the stairs and finally got to her room. I saw my dad turn around an look at me. Why is my dad here. So much is happening right now. " dad please tell me this is some kind of sick joke. " I said balling my eyes out barely able to speak.

He shook his head. " no no no no, dad this isn't happening. This isn't - " I couldn't even get the last words out. I dropped to the floor and just cried. " no. " I said to myself. My dad came and picked me up. He hugged me so tight and said " everything's going to be ok. It's ok " I knew it wasn't going to be ok because even my dad was crying. He never cries. We just stood there and hugged each-other until we heard my moms monitor start beeping really fast. I walked over to her room and looked through the glass. She.... She was.. She was dying. I shook my head and covered my mouth.

Doctors rushed in and tried to help her. But eventually the beeping stopped and had the continuous sound. She just died. Right in front of my eyes. I didn't even get to say goodbye. I cried even harder. My dad hugged me again an kissed my forehead. " shh it's ok, Aliah it's ok " he said rocking side to side still hugging me. I can't. What am I going to do. My mom was my everything. She was the shoulder to cry on. I told her everything. I loved my mom so much. I pulled away from my dad and put my back up against the glass. I slid down it and sat down. My dad put his hand on his forehead and sat down in one of the chairs.

* Hours later *
I looked down at my phone and saw I had several texts from everyone.
Melina: Aliah why did you leave school?
Melina: Aliah
Melina: Aliah answer me. Are you ok?
Cameron: hey why did you leave?
Cameron: where are you?
Cameron: Aliah please answer me.
I had the same texts from everyone. I put them all in a group conversation and told them what happened.
Melina: holy shit. Call me when you're home il come see you.
Sammy: I'm so sorry Aliah. We'll all come.
Me: guys I just want to be alone for a while. And talk to my dad.
Melina: your dad is there?
Me: Ya I'll talk to you later.
I locked my phone and leaned back in my chair. My dad walked over to me. " come on. Let's get you home. " he said. I got up and walked out of the hospital.

We finally got to my house. We walked in and sat on my couch. I laid my head on his shoulder. " dad " I said. " yes " he said. " what am I going to do. I really like it here. I have friends here. " I said looking at him. " well. Maybe, if Amy is up for it ( step mom ) then we can move in here. " he said looking around. I smiled and hugged him. " I love you " I said putting my head back on his shoulder. " I love you too Aliah " he said kissing my forehead. Before I knew it, I fell asleep.

I woke up to the sound of my dad knocking on the door. " Aliah. I made you breakfast. " he said. I got up and opened the door. He was holding a plate of bacon, sausage, and pancakes. I smiled and took the plate. " thank you dad " I said. I sat in my bed and started eating. My dad came in my room and sat on the lower part of my bed. " Aliah, we're going to have to fly back to Ohio. You're going to have to stay with me for a month or so, so that we have time to pack. So we can move here. We fly out on Thursday " he said.

I smiled. " ok. Thank you so much " I said hugging him. He got off my bed and walked to my door " love you " he said walking out. " love you too " I said loud enough for him to hear me. As soon as he left the room I set my plate to the side. I can't eat.

* later *
I keep forgetting that my mom is gone. I feel like she's just going to walk through that door at any minute and come talk to me. I miss her so much. I never got to say to her how much she meant to me. I never got to say I love you for the last time. I decided I should probably tell everyone that I'm leaving Thursday. I picked up my phone and went to call Cameron but my doorbell rang. I slowly walked down the stairs. I opened the door and saw Cameron. He ran to me and hugged me so tight I could barely breathe.

" I'm so sorry Aliah I just got your text my phone died and I'm- " he sighed. " I'm so sorry. I should've been here. I should've been at the hospital with you to comfort you and tell you it's ok but I wasn't. I'm so sorry Aliah. " he said. I just hugged him. " it's ok " I said tearing up and my voice shaking. I pulled away from the hug. " come on " I said. We went upstairs and sat on my bed. " here I'll cheer you up. " Cameron said getting up. He started playing lay me down by sam smith.

He picked me up and set me down in front of him. He put his arms on my waist and I put my arms on his shoulders. We were rocking back and forth. He went to rock to the side but he tripped over one of my shoes and fell. " HAHAHA " I laughed at him. He frowned at me. " oh I'm sorry are you ok? " I said putting my hand out to help him up. He nodded and grabbed my hand. But he pulled me down with him. " Cameron ! " I said falling on him. He started laughing and I hit his chest playfully.

I'm definitely telling my mom about- I stopped my thoughts. I looked down and felt a tear drop onto my lap. " Aliah are you o- " he said but I got up and said " I-I um have to go to the bathroom. " I ran to the bathroom, shut the door, and locked it. By now I had tears streaming down my face. I put my hands on the sink and kept crying. I heard the door knob jiggle. He knocked. " Aliah please let me in. " he said. " Cameron I'm fine " I said sniffling and wiping my nose. " Aliah let me in " he said more concerned.

Cameron's * POV *
She finally opened the door. She had tears streaming down her face. She was crying. I pulled her into a hug and rubbed her back. She started crying even more. She pulled away. " Cameron please go away for a second " she said. " wait why? " I said. " because.. " she sighed. " I hate it when people see me cry " she said looking down. I walked over to her and tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear. I lifted her chin up with my finger. " you look beautiful when you cry " I said looking into her eyes. She smiled and wiped her eyes.

She sniffled and wiggled her nose. She's so cute. I smiled and kissed her. She kissed me back. She put her hands on my stomach and I put my hands on her waist. She pulled away and hugged me. " thank you Cameron " she said. " for what ? " I said confused. " for not leaving me. " she said. I pulled her head to my shoulder. " I'll never leave you. I promise. "

Melina's * POV *
I was pacing back and forth in my room. Kenny was over. " Melina calm down " he said standing up. " Kenny I can't calm down. My best friends mom just died. She's probably a wreck. I need to go see her. " I said picking up my purse. " Melina no. She said to leave her alone " he said taking my purse from me. " let's just have some fun " he said tugging on my shirt and kissing me. I pushed him off of me. " what the hell are you doing ? " I said looking at him in disbelief. " what? You think I was going to wait more than a month? I'm not patient. " he said walking over to me. He went to kiss me again but I pushed him.

He pushed me against the wall and started kissing my neck. " Kenny stop " I said trying to struggled out of his grip. He tried to take my shirt off. " KENNY STOP " I yelled kicking him in the balls. He fell to the ground. " Get the hell out. " I said picking him up and dragging him down stairs. " Melina come on. " he said walking over to me. " Kenny stay the fuck away from me. Get out. " I said pushing him out the door. " I never liked you anyways. Your just a whore who thinks she's better than everyone else " he said. My eyes started to water.

I slammed the door and ran to my room. I sat on my bed and dialed the only number I could think to call. " hey. " I said into the phone. " sammy, please come over " I said with my voice shaking. " Melina what happened? What's wrong? " he said. " please just come over, I'll tell you when you get here " I said hanging up the phone. So much is happening right now. I don't know if I can handle it.
