Jo's POV
Sleepy.
So very sleepy.
I realize once again that I'm in a hospital bed when I turn my head and ear the beeping. I look around and see a sleeping Hero in the arm chair next to me.
I want to wake him but he looks so peaceful.
The nurse comes in but I can't help but feel like she's gonna hurt me. Everyone I don't trust is gonna hurt me. "Hi hun!" She whispers to me and I smile. "It's good that you're finally awake," she says to me and I nod.
"Do you know how long he's been sleeping and how long I've been asleep?" I ask softly and she nods.
"You've been asleep for about 7 hours, he's been asleep for about four," she tells me and I nod again. "He looked like he was having a rough time, you might want to wake him," she tells me and I sigh softly as she leaves.
I want Hero to sleep because I know damn well he hasn't slept since I got here. I forgot about the giant rock on the arm and I groan softly. I hate this, I absolutely hate it.
He wakes himself out of a dream. His face is pale, drained of any color it once had. That is until he sees me. A smile, a look of relief floods his face and I smile knowing he is happy because of me.
"How long have you been awake?" He asks me, his voice rasping. I smile and chuckle a little.
"Not long, 15 minutes maybe. I didn't wanna wake you," I tell him and he shakes his head a bit, still clearly disoriented.
"You should've woken me up..." he tells me softly and I chuckle a bit.
"I know that you haven't slept since I got here. You needed the sleep." I say and sit up a bit more.
"They're gonna rewrap your arm and then we gotta go," he tells me and I look at him slightly confused. I knew this was gonna happen, if anything I should've expected them to move me when I was out cold. "We're sitting ducks here, we've been here for so long..." he trials off and I nod.
I take a deep breath and lean my head back. I thought I slept through this part, but I guess they've been flushing crap through my system.
"You okay?" Hero asks me and I smile softly and nod toward him. "No you're not," he says as a fact and moves me over a bit so he can lay next to me. I smile into him and giggle as he kisses my head, "Now tell me what's wrong because you're warm in a cold room."
"My guess, withdrawal," I say softly and he nods. I move closer into him and he kisses me. I smile into the kiss and I wish we weren't in a hospital anymore.
There's a knock at the door and the doctor makes his way in. "Hello Ms. Langford, I'm doctor Marcus and I'm gonna be taking that off, and rewrapping your arm," he says and he's really perky. I hate it.
I nod and he pulls the chair over with the tools and his cold hand touches my burning hot arm. I pull away and he chuckles. "Why is she so warm?" Hero asks and he looks at him before sighing.
"With your history of drug abuse, we had to be careful with what we put in your system. So you had very little doses of a very strong drug," he tells me and I nod.
"So you're telling me I'm going through withdrawal," I say and he chuckles a bit.
"Yes, yes you are. I'm sure you're used to it by now though," he says and takes my arm, marking where he's gonna cut the cast off.
"I'll never get used to withdrawal. Withdrawals a bitch," I say and sigh softly. The doctor laughs and grabs the cutting tool.
"You're right, it is," he says softly and starts cutting the material. I sigh and watch as he cuts through it.
Hero watches too, if anything flinching more then me. I broke my arm a few times when I was younger so this doesn't really freak me out.
Hero's POV
I try to keep back my chuckle when she talks to the doctor but she sounds like Morgan talking to me a few months ago.
Withdrawals a bitch.
I watch her more then the doctor wrapping her arm up again. This time it's not covering her hand, only the sliced part of her arm. I'm holding her hand, it's clammy but she still grips mine tightly.
Her eyes are fixed on him, and has suddenly grown silent. I never thought I would be here again. I don't blame her, not in the slightest. She needed to do what she did, and she knows that. I just wish it didn't have to happen this way.
He finally finishes and leans back against my chest, clearly in her own thoughts. I don't even think she realizes that he left. "You okay?" I ask softly and it startled her a bit and she looks up at me.
"Yeah, fine," she says with a small smile, hiding something. I want to let it go, but I know if I do it might cause problems later.
"You're lying," I say and her face falls for a second before putting the smile back on her face.
"Lying would mean I care. I don't care enough to lie," she says softly, but I watch as her walls build there way back up. I wish she would just talk to me willingly. I know it's hard but I thought he would trust me enough to do it.
"You do care, that's why you're hiding it away," I say and watch her tense slightly.
"Hospitals aren't... my thing," she says and bites her lip. "I've... spent a lot of time in hospitals, and it wasn't always good so it just messes with my head." She says softly and sadly I think that's all I'm gonna get out of her.
I help her pack everything up and get dressed as she signs the discharge papers. I know that's all I'm gonna get out of her for now, especially since we have to go, but this is definitely a conversation we need to have later.
Because I just know there's something she's hiding.
