*1986*

One year had passed. One year since the Doc had departed, leaving Jennifer and Marty stranded behind.

To be fair, Marty was quite happy for the Doc. Doc, being lonely for most of his life, finally had a girlfriend. He also had two beautiful kids and a time train which he could call his own. Doc, in all sense of the words, was the happiest man dead or alive.

Meanwhile, Marty was somewhat... sad. While, of course, he was happy for his friend, and was happy that things had changed, he still missed the Doc. Part of him wished he could come back. But the other part of him knew that Doc was having a fantastic time in which ever era they decided to visit. "Doc... where are you?" Marty muttered, to himself. Maybe we'll see each other sometime in the future... or in the past.

Fondly, Marty smiled to himself as he picked up a photograph of him and Doc next to his nightstand. That very same picture was taken over 100 years ago, yet it felt like yesterday. Where did time go?

-

"Smile, Doc," Marty assured the older man, who gave an odd little grin. The camera snapped, and produced a photo of the two. Oh, what a glorious night that was... minus the near shooting. But the memories... ah, yes, those would last for eternity.

-

Doc really only was apart of his memory, at least in the eyes of Marty McFly. He would sure miss the memories, yearning and vowing to hold onto them. Yet, Marty still felt so incredibly frustrated— not with the Doc's departure, but the fact that Doc was the only person who could understand him. Marty's parents were obviously oblivious to the entire situation, and of course they presumed the photograph the whole part in a Halloween party. Jennifer, who had traveled to the future with Marty, forgot about the whole experience entirely. It felt strange to be in this entire thing alone. Marty was happy with his parents relationship and his music in this new timeline, but it wouldn't be complete without Doc. I miss you...

With that, Marty sighed and flipped the photograph over, turning on his side to fall asleep. His sleep would, once again, transform him to yet another reality.

But Marty didn't sleep for long.

A sudden three sonic booms crashed through the air, and almost instantly Marty knew what it was.

Curiously, he jolted out of bed. That gained his attention. Could that be...?

I think it is!

Granted, it was late into the night, so he could just be hearing things. But the sound almost instantaneously resonated with him, and he couldn't help but draw himself to this indescribable noise of familiarity. Hopping out of bed, he called the Doc's name.

"Doc?" He hoarsely whispered, his voice ringing through the air. "Hello— anyone home?"

But before Marty can make another move, the light next door to him flickered. "Marty?" Came his dad's voice. "Son, what are you doing up?"

Marty didn't expect his dad to be up this early, nor did he need him to be. "Uhm, nothing," he stammered back, muttering some gibberish excuse. If this was really Doc, then nothing needed to be heard.

Marty only further emerged towards the door, opening the back gate and walking out to the front. And more or less so to his surprise— there the Doc was, dressed up in the time train with his family!

"Doc!" Marty cried out, feverishly running up to the Doc. His voice was hidden in both surprise and excitement. The Doc was... here? "Doc!"

"Marty!" Doc cried back, going up to his friend to hug him. The relief that filled the both of them were admittedly large— they had no idea they'd be so happy to see each, nor how happy the other person would be to see them. The two embraced for a good minute before separating. Hugs come first.

"Doc, I didn't know if I'd ever see you again!" Marty admitted. It was his only vocal response back. Doc just smiled. "You didn't think I'd never visit you again, did you?" Doc asked, laughing, and motioned to the rest of his family. Marty noticed that both Jules and Verne were considerably older. Marty waved to all three of them, giving polite nods. A huge grin emerged across his face. Now, finally— Doc was here. Things finally began to feel normal again.

May this friendship stand for all time!

Authors note:

Honestly, I thought I was going to end this chapter on a sad note with memories intact, only. But after some revision, I really like the happy stuff. Hopefully y'all enjoy.

I just love this friendship SO much ^~^
