"Marty, could you come over? I need to do a test run on the DeLorean and I'll need somebody to help me out." Doc asked, his voice muffled through the old receiver.Marty blinked in surprise. It was almost time for dinner, but then again it could always wait for some more. "Sure," He responded, happy he now had something to do instead of chowing down food. "I'll be there in forty-five minutes."
"Alright, thank you Marty! See you in a bit."
"See ya, Doc."
And with that, Marty clicked off. "Hey mom?" He called out to his mother, Lorraine. "Can I go to Doc's for a bit?"
Lorraine sighed. "Hon, it's almost dinner time! Can it wait for a bit?" She asked.
"It's an emergency!" Marty responded, which wasn't quite the truth, but he wanted to do something other than lay in his room. He was a little sick of skateboarding, and listening to music didn't sound appealing.
Lorraine sighed once more. "Alright, but make it fast. Dinner's almost ready."
"Right!" Marty yelled in reply, grabbing a t-shirt and jacket to wear. Five minutes later, he was ready and got his skateboard and Walkman. "I'll be back, just heading over to Docs'," He told his parents as he walked out, putting his headphones on. His parents nodded in approval as he left, knowing how close the two were.
Since Doc's place normally usually took awhile to get to, Marty took a few shortcuts to get there faster. About thirty minutes later, Marty arrived at Doc's house and entered.
"Hey Doc?" Marty called out, not seeing anyone. "Anyone home?"
"Marty!" Verne cried, popping out of nowhere and giving him a hug. Marty chuckled. "Hey buddy!" He said, smiling and returning the hug. "Have you seen Doc anywhere?"
Up behind Verne came Jules and Clara, but no Doc. "Greetings, Martin!" Jules said to him as he waved. Marty gave him a smile and waved back politely. Jules was always so proper and smart, just like his dad. "Hey Jules!" He replied, before turning to Clara. "Hi ma'am," Marty said, giving her a nod. She nodded back in response. "Is Doc here? He called me over, but I haven't seen him anywhere."
Clara nodded her head. "Yes, actually! He's here in the garage. He's been working on the DeLorean nearly all day; I think you might want to check on him." Clara shook her head to laugh at the silly antics of her husband and his obsession with his machinery.
Marty walked outside to the garage, where a sweaty Doc was working on the DeLorean. "Come on, you son of a-" He mumbled some nasty words underneath his breath, not acknowledging Marty's presence. "Hey Doc?" Marty asked, staring in fascination at the dismantled DeLorean.
Doc turned around, startled. "Hi Marty." He said, his voice sounding like it had been strained. "Thank goodness you're here! I've been working on this damn thing all day, but it still hasn't been working properly. Could you pass me that wrench over there?"
Marty fetched a wrench from a nearby shelf and handed it to him. "Thanks, Marty," Doc said, tightening some screws on the car. "Would you mind helping me take the DeLorean out for a test drive? I'll need somebody come along and make sure it's doing alright before I go on any more trips to another time."
Marty nodded and gave him a crooked grin. "Sure! No problem, Doc. You know I'll always be able to help you out."
"Great, Marty." Doc responded. "I was thinking of taking the DeLorean into the future, so we'll need some futuristic clothes. Thankfully, the last time we visited 2015 I bought some extra clothing so we can wear it. We won't be there for long, but we absolutely can't risk causing any suspicions. Here." Doc tossed Marty a box full of futuristic clothing. Marty shrugged and opened the box. "You're the Doc, Doc." He said.
