I woke up to my alarm screaming in my ears. I glanced at my clock and groaned because it was only 7am. I slowly rolled out of bed and turned on the local radio station. They were playing ‘Set This World on Fire’ by the Janoskians.

‘They have really different music compared to Ottawa. I’ve never heard of these people before.’ I thought while walking into my bathroom. ‘But it is catchy!’ I had to admit, when I caught myself dancing to the music while stripping off my clothes. After I showered I started the long search around my already messy house, for my school uniform.

“Where’d you put it?” I screamed from the upstairs portion of our house.

“Hanging in your closet, stupid kid!” my mom yelled back.

I walked into my closet and dug around, eventually pulling out a uniform that consisted of a burgundy blazer, white blouse and a plaid burgundy skirt. I groaned, how disgusting. I tied my hair into a high ponytail and sulked downstairs.

“I look gross.” I sighed as I stopped behind my mom who was standing in the kitchen.

“Oh honey, you look cute!” she pinched my cheek and scrambled to find her camera.

“No, Mom please don’t.” I objected and covered my face.

“Just one picture?” she smiled, trying to convince me.

I lowered my hands and gave a big, fake smile. Mom laughed at the picture and handed me money for lunch. She kissed my forehead and wished me a good first day.

I walked the two blocks to school and headed straight for the office when I got there. I retrieved my schedule from the nice, chubby, short lady at the front desk and headed out to find my locker. I walked around in circles for a good 15 minutes before I found my locker, realizing I had passed it at least 10 times.

I walked to first period and sat in the back, not wanting to get noticed, but of course my teacher pulled me up to the front to introduce me to the class. I slowly and awkwardly walked up to the front. I looked around at all the new people and I could feel my face burning up.

“Class, this is Maizy. She came all the way from Canada, isn’t that exciting?” the teacher sang cheerfully.

No one responded.

“Luke, if you don’t mind I’d like you to stick with Maizy for the day, show her around?” the teacher motioned to a boy in the front row. He nodded in agreement. His curly locks fell an inch or two above his eyes. He had a small freckle on his nose and beautiful brown eyes.

The class broke out into a hushed chatter as I made my way over to Luke. The last step I took towards him landed me a few inches from his face when he stood up.

“Hi.” His breath brushed my face when he spoke.

I froze on the spot. But my eyes continued to study his face carefully. Something inside me woke me up and I quickly stepped back blushing even more than I already was.

“Sorry.” I smiled gingerly.

He ruffled his cute curls, bit his lip and motioned to the empty seat beside him. I quickly sat down and we instantly broke out into conversation. He was so sweet and I really liked him. I wanted to be friends with him so badly.

After my morning classes were over I started searching for Luke, hoping I could sit with him at lunch. When I spotted him he was standing with a group of his friends. I walked over and awkwardly stood behind the group trying to think of something to say.

“Hi Luke!” I tapped his shoulder.

He turned and faced me, both him and his friends gave me a weird look and then his friends scattered. He smiled awkwardly at me. ‘What did I do?’ I wondered. We quietly walked into the noisy cafeteria and sat at an empty table. Shortly another boy came to the table, he was identical to Luke.

“Hey Luke.” The boy currently sitting beside me at the table smirked. My head snapped and faced him.

“What, I thought you were Luke?“ I was so confused.

They both roared with laughter.

“I’m Jai! We’re twins.” The boy beside me chuckled.

“Obviously we’re twins, idiot!” Luke growled, sitting down beside me.

“Haha, real funny guys.” I groaned sarcastically.

The afternoon went by faster than the morning, seeing I had made friends and I had someone to talk to in the later classes. By the end of the day, I couldn’t wait for tomorrow. I really liked these two. We walked home together and they lived one street before my house.

“Want to come over? Our friends and our brother are going to hang out at our place tonight. You’ll really like them!” Jai asked, smiling hopefully.

“Sure, I’d love to!” I chirped acting a little more excited than I should.

When we walked in the front door you could hear someone yelling something. It sounded like two people fighting. The twins rushed into the kitchen and I followed, finding two boys wrestling on the floor.

“I started the cockatoo face! Admit it, I started it!” the boy on top of the other yelled. He was holding the other boy in a headlock.

Another boy was sitting on the cupboard laughing at the two wrestling.

“Break it up!” Luke yelled, jumping on the two boys on the floor.

I was standing there staring at them, not knowing what to think. These were some weird kids. When they stopped wrestling the one boy who was in the headlock strutted over to me and stuck his chest out.

“I’m Daniel, who might you be?” he barely finished his sentence when the boy he was wrestling with pushed him out of the way. He fixed his hair and wrapped his arm around my waist.

“I’m Beau.” He smiled, staring deeply into my eyes with his own pair of piercing green beauties.

This boy was attractive and he could tell I thought so. I choked up and stuttered.

“I’m, I’m uh.. Mai-Maizy.” I spat out. He gave a small laugh and introduced me to the last boy, James.

The boys were talking away but I couldn’t keep my eyes off Beau. The whole time his arm was planted firmly around my waist. The feel of his touch was different, but hard to explain how it felt. He was a beautiful sight and I wanted him all to myself. But getting him to want me back may be a problem.
