Kyo's POVI didn't sleep one wink. It's 5 AM and I doubt I even closed my eyes. This is one time in life I wouldn't mind Yuki knocking me out. I don't think I've ever been so nervous in my life. How is a date even supposed to go? I only have 19 hours to figure it out.
I made rice balls for Tohru and I for breakfast. The other two can figure out what they want. Come to think of it. It's almost 6, and Tohru isn't up yet. I wonder if she's still asleep. There's no way, she was sound asleep at 8 last night, so she should be up by now. Should I go check on her?
I lightly knock on her door, just in case she is still asleep, but she isn't.
"Hello?" She squeaks.
"It's me. Are you almost ready for school? I made some breakfast if you're hungry."
"Oh, I'll be awhile longer. Go ahead to school without me, I'll catch up!" She replies.
"Are you sure you're okay? If you need help with something, I'm here." I say, trying to be reassuring, but it clearly didn't work, because all I hear is,
"I'm okay, thank you!" and the door locking.
What's her deal? She better know there's no way I'm leaving for school until she comes out. Besides, today is supposed to be the best day of the year at school, there's no way she'll miss it.
I've been waiting downstairs on the porch for awhile, but she hasn't come down yet. If we were to leave right now we might be able to make it, but it looks like she really doesn't want to see me. What's going on? If I don't go check on her, she might not end up coming.
Just as I reached for the door handle, she opens it from the inside, leaving us about a foot from each other. We make solid eye contact for a few seconds before I stumble back.
It looks like she put makeup on. Her eyes have a little bit of glitter and her lips are shiny. She immediately starts blushing and looks at the floor.
"Don't tell me, I know I look stupid." She choked out those words insecurely.
"Are you being serious? This is why you've been all weird?" I've barely seen her for almost a whole day, and this is why? I missed her so much. Her warm smile and her huge brown eyes. I brought up my hand to touch her face, but she wouldn't look up at me.
"I guess so, maybe." She mumbled, as if I couldn't hear her.
I lifted up her chin with my pointer finger so that she was looking straight at me, and her face was flushed to a point I've never seen it before. It made me all warm just looking at her.
"You look pretty Tohru. Trust me." I smiled reassuringly at her, but her eyes darted away from mine, and I could even see her ears getting red.
Instead of pushing for more answers, I grabbed her by the hand and pulled her forwards.
"We're gonna be late for school at this rate. I hear today is actually supposed to be fun too." I smile again, wanting to see hers, but she can't look me in the face and she seems to be hiding behind her other hand.
I walk a few steps in front of her and stop, which leads her to bump into my chest and she gasps.
"I'm so sorry!" She exclaimed, bowing her head at me.
I crouched down so she could see me.
"Tohru?" I asked, not expecting an answer. I didn't get one either. She just looked away.
"Tohru!" I said it sternly this time, so she looked at me a little startled.
"Will you please talk to me?" I pleaded. She looked at my hand, and held it with both of her tiny ones. She tugged at my hand, motioning for me to get up. She looked at me and smiled.
"C'mon! We better hurry!" She said with a somewhat fake smile on her face.
Even from behind I could see her ears flushed red. What is going through her head?
Tohru's POV
I can't look him in the eyes right now, not after figuring it out. I like him. Not how I like Yuki or Momiji. I want to be around him in ways that I'm not around them. How am I supposed to tell him that? I'm too nervous to speak. I know I have to at some point though. I'm supposed to be going on a real date with him. Like a real date, with just us. Yuki was going to come with, but he decided that he was going to tell Machi about the curse. That's a whole other set of problems. I hope things go well for him, but I can't stop thinking about...
"Kyo." I said turning to him.
"Yeah? What's up?" He looked at me, a little concerned.
"I'm really nervous lately. I'm sorry if I'm acting rude." I say apologetically.
"No, I- I get it. I've been feeling nervous too." He said. I looked up at him; he was rubbing the back of his neck, and blushing a little.
"You've seemed so composed lately. Do you want to talk about it?" I say, hoping to make him feel better, but he just looks at me like I'm crazy.
"Tohru, I'm not just going to blab about my life while disregarding you. That wouldn't be fair."
"I just want to go to school. I heard there's fun things going on today! Yuki told me some super secret things going on!" I say excitedly.
"Hey, you're the one that stopped us this time dummy." He snarks back.
After making it to school, I noticed all of the decorations. We got here just as the bell was ringing. We looked at each other and ran to class while laughing the whole way.
"Honda, Sohma, is there any reason why you're late?" The class looks confused as we're both smiling, and late for class.
"We were on school grounds when the bell rang. That should be good enough." Kyo remarks.
"I'm so sorry, we got caught up looking at the decorations!" I say, basically lying through my teeth.
A few of the girls shoot glares at me, and I can't help but wonder if other people can tell. You know, that I have different feelings towards him. It seems like Uo and Hana already knew, so do others as well?
During class, I'd catch Kyo looking at me, and he'd go red and look away. I don't know why, but I got a lot more glares than usual. After class, I felt a hand on my arm.
"Honda, you stay here, we need to talk." A girl a little taller than me says sternly.
I feel another hand grip mine on the other side, and I look up to see Kyo.
"C'mon Tohru, the fun stuff starts now." With that, he drags me away from the girl who was clearly about to chew me out, and takes me to the different food stands.
"What do you want to eat? I know the breakfast I made wasn't good, so I'll pay." He said.
"I actually liked it! I've told you before that you make good rice balls! I brought my wallet, so it's fine!" I say reassuringly.
"I said let me pay damnit." He says softly.
"Hey kitty cat, how's it hangin'?" Haru's words interrupted Kyo, making him annoyed.
"Oh Haru! Hi! How's all the stuff with the sophomores going?" I asked so that Kyo wouldn't argue with him.
We all talked and met up with Momiji and Yuki. Kyo ended up buying me a few treats and an adorable necklace with an orange charm hanging at the bottom. One guy looked me up and down and Kyo noticed and grabbed my hand to pull me away. I still can't stop thinking about the way I feel for him, but I don't think he knows, so it's been easier to calm down around him.
A/N: I'm sorry it's taking me so long to get chapters out. Mental health stuff has been hard, and the quarter in school ends tomorrow, so I've been working hard. Please let me know what you thought about the chapter, ALSO, what you thought about the new episode in season 3! There might be spoilers in the comments, so be warned! This story kind of takes place after season 2, if season 3 didn't exist, so I'm sorry if it gets a little confusing. Love you all! I set a goal for myself to add 200 words every time I got a vote on one of the chapters, and I finished it, so thank you all! :)
