Keni woke up against Spencer's shoulder, his arm slung across her legs so she would stay tucked against his shoulder. He had his head back against the pillows with his mouth slightly open.
She blushed and laid her head back down on Spencer's shoulder. She still had a slight headache from yesterday but she felt oddly hungry, yet she didn't want to eat anything.
"Good Morning." She jumped at the sound of Spencer talking to the nurse who walked in. "Good Morning agent Reid. Did you get Keni to eat at all last night?" The nurse asked while checking Keni's vitals. "Yeah. Four bites of toast and butter. It took her a while for eat it so getting her to eat anything else will be a challenge."
Typically those words would have been hurtful, but his soft voice made it sound more reassuring. She felt like she could take her time and properly recover. She didnt feel like she was being a bother by being scared to eat. He made her feel appreciated.
"I say we just keep getting her to eat light things like toast and crackers. Just for her to get over that fear of food itself."
Spencer agreed with the nurse and kept up some small talk about Keni's health before the nurse excused herself.
"Good Monring Spencer.." the sound of her soft voice made his heart jump. He looked down fondly at the girl "Good Morning." He felt all warm inside everytime he heard her speak, she had a soft rasp to her low toned voice.
Her head lifted off his shoulder and he slowly took his arm off her legs. "Do you want to try eating more toast for me? The nurse brought a fresh one a minute ago."
She thought for a minute before nodding and taking the plate from him. She was determined to eat at least half of it. She wanted Spencer and her sister to be proud of her. She wanted to prove she didn't need to go back to Madison.
He watched her silently as she took the first bite, he watched her face scrunch up in disgust as she chewed and swallowed the bite.
"You've got it, you're doing great." His words made her want to keep eating, she wanted to be normal again, well as normal as she could be.
After about 10 minutes she finished the toast. She had tears running down her face and she wanted to throw up but she was proud of herself. "Keni I am so proud of you." Spencers hands came up to her face and gently wiped away the falling tears.
She leaned into his hands and silently cried, her body was screaming thank you but her mind was screaming that she didn't deserve that toast. His hands took ahold of her face and he held her small face. "This is what recovery is. You pushed yourself and you did so good. You can't listen to your mind right now. You absolutely deserve to eat honey."
The pet name surprised both of them, he wanted to take it back but the word was already said so he had to just go with it.
"P-promise?" He nodded softly and continued to use his thumbs to wipe away her falling tears. "I promise honey."
