Starr Marie

"We should stay on high alert, judging that there is just a few hours left," Xavier says to Grayson and I as we stand in the big empty kitchen.

Hours has past, but all that's happened was Antonio cringey comments of flirting and me constantly looking at the clock. It was just around 10:30, meaning there was still time to go, and a mission to finish until the end.

Sitting against the counter, doodling became a game. Grayson, Xavier, and I stood in the kitchen as we heard voices from the living room.

"I'm suggesting we're not alone?" I whisper to Grayson as a look of confusion parts onto his face, signifying that he was just as confused as me.

Xavier cracks the kitchen door, looking through the little space for a figure. "There's always a bomb before the explosion," He replies slowly shutting the door back to the closed position.

I frown. "What exactly does that mean?" I ask, more like demand for an answer, because it didn't sound good at all.

"I suppose you have yet, met Damon's father," Xavier states.

My heart instantly dropped.

Because if I learned anything from the way Damon speaks of that man, it's that he's not a good man, far from it. Involving myself with him, makes matters worse. Putting myself in more danger than Damon assumed I would be in with Antonio.

This is the guy who abused both Damon, his mother, and my mother.

He hurt Damon.

Made him into the stone cold killer. The heartless man. The mafia leader. If it weren't for me, Damon would have no sympathy towards anyone—well, that's at least what he's told me. There will be dead bodies after dead bodies all because of a sperm donor as his father.

"Luca? Luca King? The one who—," I was cut off by the sound of Antonio's voice.

"Starr," His voice sounds deeper and more demanding. I return a frightened look to Grayson and Xavier. Afraid of what will happen when I leave the kitchen. "Could you make your way to the living room?"

Grayson gestured towards the door. "The mission doesn't end until tonight." He recites a thought that crossed my mind just minutes before.

Grabbing the tiny ounce of courage, I start my journey towards the door. But, before I touch it, I turn and give Grayson a hug. Partly because I didn't know what to expect.

I was always told to 'expect the unexpected', but what if I want to expect everything?

He hugs me back and gently whispers in my ear. "As strong as I know you are alone, I will be right here. And don't worry, I'll inform Damon on who we've ran into." The tingling feeling of his breathe soon has stopped as he takes a brief step back.

Me and Xavier weren't as close, especially because I could tell he was only here for the job and my dad. But, he lands his hand on my shoulder giving it a comforting squeeze.

"Grayson's right," He says before dropping him hands to his side. Following by walking to the counter, grabbing the glass of water her was sipping on minutes before.

I nod my head and turn towards the door. Pushing it as it slowly opens, revealing Antonio, his men, a man with a suit, and his men who stood proudly behind him.

"Oh there you are," Antonio calls out. "I was starting to think that you weren't going to come. And that would be a problem, wouldn't it?" He says in an frustrated calm tone as I was now standing next to him.
