This piece portrays a common struggle among Asian teenagers: grades. In Asia, there is a constant emphasis on academic excellence; good grades are seen as a huge aspect in determining a child's worth and success. In this artwork, I used a fish-eye lens to capture and exaggerate the disappointed expression of my mom if she were to hear that I got an A- on a math test at school instead of the usual A. Because A- is still considered to be a really good grade, the artwork mocks the ridiculously high expectations that Asian parents have as well as the pressure they put on their children as a result.
