To Dion Elton

To think that my life has ended up like this.

I'm writing this letter for you, because I know I cannot see you again. You must be sad that I haven't been around. Frankly it brings tears to my eyes, but I can't stop his plans. Maybe you are even angry at me, I don't know. I just thought that before I left, I'd give you an explanation. You deserve more than that. But this is all I can give you.

It all started when I turned nineteen years old. I was foolish back then, just like any other teenager. My parents are rich, very rich. They own a sports company. Back when our country was still free and happy, I was too. My families business was doing well, and my father wanted me to take over after him. I was the heir to a multi million company and the most popular girl at my university. Life was truly grand for me back then.

People adored me the most for my looks. I was quite obnoxious about them too, especially in my teen years. With dark brown hair and silver gray eyes, maybe you've seen a picture of me too. I admit my looks were greater before your birth. Having children really does wear you out. I had a lot of people fall at my feet, wanted to be my friend for either money or fame. Some of them were head over heals for my youthful beauty. At the time I had everything. The country was happy, nothing was bad.

But I guess some people didn't think of it that way. Some were disappointed in how our government was managing the country. I guess it wasn't perfect, but I'd like to claim that it was better back then. I grew up in a free land, but I also saw the fall of it. That one fateful day, when your father decided to storm the palace and the government with his followers. That was the end of my childhood, the end of all good. I didn't think of it too much back then, but it turned out to be the sad truth.

For a few months the country was in chaos. I spent my days with my family, hidden in our forest mansion. We were scared for our lives, scared for our business and ourselves. I began to realize what the real world was like. My little bubble consisting of fame, money and looks burst. At the time I was afraid to loose all the things I had. I didn't think too much of it otherwise, but I knew I had to help my family somehow.

So maybe that mentality stuck with me, even when things calmed down. Me and my family moved back to our home in the capital after Derix confirmed his position on the throne. Things were tense, some were happy while others were sad. Hesitantly I continued my studies and went back to my normal life. Since I was rich, nothing really changed in my day to day life. The only thing that was different, was the now closed boarders to the rest of the world. I remember feeling lonely, shut off from the universe. My world suddenly got a lot smaller, but my eyes opened.

I continued on studying in misery for three years. I graduated at the top of my class, still as popular as ever. Everything seemed perfect but I wasn't happy. It didn't get better for me after that either...

On a rainy fall day, the third anniversary of Derix's reign, I was invited to a bale. All royal and rich were invited, it was the biggest event of the year. We were instructed to wear our fanciest dresses and know how to dance well. It was my first real bale, my first royal bale. My mother wanted me to wear the finest she could find. Looking back I can't help but wish I had fallen sick on that day. Maybe I wouldn't have to have gotten involved in this mess.

She bought be a light pink gown with golden jewelry. Several rings, necklaces and a pair of diamond earrings were placed on my ears. They were grandmas diamond earrings, going back dozens of years. I felt honored to wear them, honored to be invited to this bale. I was naive at that time, not knowing that I was the most eligible candidate for a bride among the elites. Rich, young, beautiful and at the top of my class. At the time I was the one girl that every elite mother wanted their son to marry.
