In the morning, Y/N put on her freshly laid out uniform (though she had no idea how it had gotten there, magic, she supposed), brushed her hair and laced up her definitely-not dress code approved chunky black boots.

'You're going to get in trouble for those.' Marlene said pointedly.

'If I'm going to go in detention, then I'm going in fashionable shoes. Plus they make me taller, so...' She put a hair tie on her wrist and walked down the stairs.

'Good Morning.' Remus was in the common room waiting for his friends.

'Morning, sleep well?'

'Eh, alright.' Remus looked down at her shoes and sighed, 'Are you trying to get detention on the first day?'

'I'll just blow all the teachers away with my intelligence and then they'll forget about my cool as shoes, though that will be difficult, look at them.' she stared adoringly at them, 'You coming down to breakfast?'

'Yep, just waiting for the others, they take forever- oh here they are.'

'Gooooddddd morning Remus.' Sirius said sleepily, 'Nice shoes.'

She pointed her toes, 'Thankyou! Everyone is giving me such a hard time about them!'

'They probably think you'll get detention or something,' Sirius yawned, 'But who cares.'

'Ugh, don't listen to him, he hasn't even got his tie done up!'

'I can't remember how to do it.'

James sniggered.

'Ugh,' Y/N crossed over to him and quickly did up his tie, 'It looks dumb but at least I won't be in detention with you.'

Sirius looked at her, 'Your eyes are very blue.'

'Oh goody, he's smart too. I'm getting some toast, coming?'

'Yep.' Remus said.

She pushed open the portrait hole and walked out. James came up next to her.

'You okay?' he murmured.

'I'm fine, thanks James.' she muttered back.

The great hall was buzzing as Y/N slid onto the long Gryffindor table. She buttered her toast and poured herself some coffee from the pot.

'Oh timetables!' Sirius exclaimed, 'What have you got first?'

'Transfiguration.' they all said.

'Ay! Nothing like having Minnie first thing in the morning.' James said.

'Which books did I need for that?' Y/N asked, sipping her coffee.

'... Transfiguration Fifth Year.' Remus ate his cereal.

She paused, 'I don't think I have that one.'

James groaned, 'That's like, the only one you need!'

'Well, I'll just,' she struggled to form words, 'Borrow one of the school ones!'

She poured herself another cup of coffee.

'Woah,' Lily pushed away the pot and took a seat next to her, 'That's a lot of coffee.'

'Some guy with glasses told me that the first day of classes are always busy.' she drank from her mug.

'I-it was me, I was the one who said that.' James reassured everyone.

'Figured.' Lily said buttering some bread, 'Sirius, your tie is actually done up for once! Wow, big achievement!'

'Yeah, actually, Y/N did it for me.'
