'Thestrals.' Remus said.
'They're beautiful.' Sirius pet what Y/N supposed was the winged beast.
Y/N looked at him, 'Oh Sirius, I'm so sorry.'
'Don't be,' he walked around and put a leg up on the carriage, 'I hardly knew her.'
The boys clambered into the carriage.
Y/N looked turned to see if she could see an empty carriage.
'What are you waiting for?' James asked, 'There's still room in our carriage, get in.'
She looked genuinely surprised, 'You... You want me to join you guys?'
'Of course,' Remus said, 'Get in.'
She put her foot up and tried to pull herself in.
Sirius gave a throaty laugh, 'Short ass.'
'Sirius!' Remus exclaimed.
'Fine,' Sirius put out his hand and hauled her up, 'You know I'm sure there's a charm that makes you taller.'
'I would thank you, but um, no.' she clapped her hands, 'I am excited.'
'You're not nervous about sorting?' Remus asked.
She pondered this, 'Should I be?'
'Well I mean, those people are going to become your family, but don't worry, you'll be put in the right place.' he smiled, warmly.
She returned it, 'Thanks, man.'
The carriage moved forward, being led by the thestrals.
They rode forward quietly, Y/N trapped in her thoughts. She hadn't thought about which house she could get. She had just assumed Gryffindor, yet she was ambitious, and she didn't want to be in Slytherin. Suddenly the burdens of her own expectations weighed down on her.
'You okay?' James asked.
'Yeah,' Y/N's smile dropped, 'No, not really.'
'What's wrong?' Sirius asked.
'Oh I don't know, Remus got into my head. Damn you, Remus. What if I do get Slytherin?' she waved off whatever comment Sirius was about to say, 'I know I should be content with whatever house I get because that's who I am! But I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I got Slytherin, those people have made my life literal hell.'
'Don't worry abou-'
'-But! I am ambitious and there is a chance that I could get Slytherin and I- I just can't!' Y/N continued.
'Slow down,' Sirius put a hand on her shoulder, 'You're spiraling.'
'No shit, Sirius!'
'Why does this matter so much to you?' Remus asked.
'Because I have based my whole life over the values of a Gryffindor and the thought of being a Slytherin, at most!'
'What is it with Slytherins exactly.'
'What is it not with Slytherins.' Sirius retorted.
'They- They've ruined my life. But it's not just the thought of being a Slytherin, it's the thought of being a not Gryffindor!'
'You just need to calm down.' James said.
Y/N gave a strangled cry, 'Do not tell me to calm down.'
Sirius opened his mouth and closed it, 'Why are you standing up?'
'I-' Y/N saw she was standing up and frowning, she sat down, 'I don't know. I'm sorry, I can get... Anxious and frustrated at times.'
