I trusted that louse wouldn't go straight off and informed John Reid and that way he guaranteed I had another person of the Queen circle against me. I had more than enough with that disgusting Irish. I could imagine how many lies he would tell him about me, he was such a gossip and manipulative guy.

Now that between Freddie and I there was again understanding and it looked like we could restart our friendship, he came along.

John Reid had no reasons to fear, his "goods" like Paul called them, were safe. They were in the studio to work and that's what they did. They never weaseled out, they took it seriously and from the moment they got into till they left, tried to get the most out of their time.

Bohemian Rhapsody progressed at good pace but it had such a complex structure that despite the rest had their own songs in which they wanted to work, Bo Rhap took away most of their hours.

We were all exciting witness of Brian's guitar solo in that room. It sounded amazing, vibrant and I noticed the enthusiasm in Freddie's eyes. It seemed to me perfect from the beginning to end but he was very perfectionist and always saw things that the rest of the mortals just could guess. The song was like a daughter to him and needed it would wholly resemble him.

There were times they could get easily things done and other times they didn't get anything in all day. And they must keep them apart and take others not to end up frustrated and enraged in some of their endless fights.

Freddie always pled for not trying to force, if the song didn't flow, his interest diminished and he wasn't inspired anymore. But nothing like that happened with Bohemian. He knew exactly what he wanted in each part of it. But it was still a beautiful sketch, it showed his precious potential but there was still time to arriving Rockfied and record the piano, bass, drums and guitar tracks. The rehearsals were something exciting to see. Despite their inevitable fights, at this stage they knew each other so well, that there was no need to receive instructions.

Ridge Farm was a lovely farm from the 16th century at the border between Surrey and Sussex, just on the limits of Surrey hills. The enviroment was idyllic and superbly fit to find the inspiration, without the wordly distractions which provided London. The mix couldn't be any better: calm, creativity and freedom.

Saying Ridge Farm was like a boy scouts camp was exaggerating. But the atmosphere which you could breathe there was fantastic. There was a swimmimg pool, a tennis court, a huge garden with trees. Later on it would be a recording studio properly done but when Queen took posession of the place, they used it just like a place to rehearse and write. The recording would take place at Rockfield later on.

The band stayed in the main building with its irregular wooden staircase, uneven floors and isolated rooms, each one completely different from the other.

Freddie's room was of course the most beautiful because its spaciousness, brightness and design. The grand white piano filled a great part of it and so if the inspiration got him in the middle of his dreams, he always had it at hand.

Apart from the main building there were several more, old barns in part built up out of timber of old ships. In one of them I lodged and although the room was like a cave, I was delighted because with such a heat I thanked its dampness and lack of natural light. Apart from its freshness, its location allowed me certain privacy and independence from them, something very precious to me.

I didn't count on some photographers would appear to take them a few beautiful pictures with the idyllic environment. Yes, sure. I'd seen those pictures. The tennis matches, the snooker, the posing in front of the building facade.

Some Japanese fanatics had gotten in touch with Reid to be able to make them an interview. In spite of they were on the countryside to be away of any distraction, his manager found it a great idea. They had to spoil their Japanese audience because they were really the first ones showing massive interest for the group. The owners of the farm were delighted to open their door to the Asian, it gave them wide publicity. Paul coordinated all the operation.
