THAT SAME OLD FEELING JUST KEEPS BURNING DEEP INSIDE

When I woke up some hours later grumbling about that Christmas sun on my still makeup eyelids, there was no trace of Freddie. I was wondered how he could manage his hangovers. He was able to sleep two or three hours and get to work with no side effects. I, however, felt like a piñata in some kid's party after getting hit real hard.

The only trace of Freddie was a trickle of blood over the pillow. Totally drunk both of us, I couldn't recall our steps on the flat. It was clear we collapsed on bed with our clothes on. I had even my boots on.

I pulled down the side zip and kicked them away. I nuzzled my nose where his body was laid down. The mix of alcohol and femenine perfume he lately put on was delicious. With his agile and catlike body he managed to get away with no noise at all.

While I removed the remains of the excessive Christmas makeup from my eyes, I was worried about him. Where did he go? Why didn't he stay the Christmas day with me?

It was 3 p.m. and I thought I could call Mary and not being untimely. I heard a male voice. Ok, it seemed her one night stand had stayed to eat breakfast.

- Mary, is Freddie there?

- No. I think he was here while I was sleeping because I miss some things from his wardrobe.

The situation between Mary and Freddie was still a little bizarre. They had broken up and each one had restarted a new life but Freddie still stayed at Holland Road now and then. He shared flat with David in Dovehouse Street but practically all his needed things were with Mary, like his Yamaha piano.

So the first thing I thought when I didn't see him laying beside me is he would decide going Holland Road. I would rather think that instead he would come back to David because he couldn't be without him. The phonecall to Mary was caused by my absolute lack of common sense. There was no need that Mary would notice my restlessness about her ex boyfriend's whereabouts? I started to lose my way in this mission. This ship travelled in all directions but the right one.

- God, where will he be? He had his nose damaged and hangover.

- Freddie doesn't suffer hangovers like the rest of the human beings. What happened to his nose?

Mary had been in the same party as everybody else but it was obvious at some point in the night her interest was focused in somebody else.

- A fight with David in the party.

- What a couple of assholes. Don't you worry, I'm sure they have made up and his nose is already cured. Did you go before him?

Luckily Mary trusted blindly on me and didn't suspect my concern about Freddie was due to another feeling apart the pure friendship. I had managed to Mary didn't even think I had a crush on her ex boyfriend in the past or now.

Ash, set off again the lies machine. Are you sure you don't enjoy like a crazy making up lie after lie?

- I don't know. Everything was so confused. Minns got away and shortly after I lost track of Freddie. I think that when I was gone he wasn't there but I don't know where he went. I was so drunk. I barely recall arriving my bed.

I didn't have the telephone number of Dovehouse flat that he shared with David and didn't feel like talking to Minns. So I gave Mary the job of calling to check if Freddie had returned to his love nest.

It seemed all clear. If Freddie had come over to the flat that still shared with Mary to pick up some things, I was sure that he was right now with his beloved David. On one hand that's suited me fine, if they forgave themselves after fighting like children at the school yard, that could be true love. A very toxic love but the kind of love Freddie liked to live anyway.
