I didn't know for sure if John Reid was another victim of my charms but I did get he didn't kick me out of his house, a real achievement. Anyway, he would never do that because I was Freddie's guest and Freddie was special to him.

I've always wondered about their manager-client relationship. The chemistry and affinity was undeniable, I figured out all through the dinner. But I always felt intrigued by "The millionaire waltz" lyrics which he would write in record time. It was one of the few songs about he spoke quite freely. And it was dedicated to John Reid.

But the lyrics were incredibly romantic. As though it would tell the story of one boy in love with another one. Would there be anything between them during their work relationship? One thing was clear. They've been just a few months with him and he was hosting already a dinner party for his birthday. It was clear Freddie had won his heart.

On the other hand John was Elton John's manager and also his romantic partner, although in 1975 either they were about to break up or they had already split.

Anyway Reid was the kind of disguised gay product of that time, still too intolerant. He didn't come out of the closet and he didn't expect to come out in short term. Everything was handled with obvious secrecy. And Freddie had a similar attitude as his manager's. He hid his homosexual tendencies zealously. That brought them together a lot. They understood each other perfectly.

The table was made up of Freddie and Mary, Brian and his still girlfriend Chrissie, Roger and John, Reid and a mysterious girl who sat by his side. She introduced herself to me as Sarah and knew she would be John Reid's young employee in practice who was crazy about him and with whom later on he would be engaged.

The dinner was exquisite, he could be very proud of his beloved chef. Although Freddie was genuinely happy to see me and his face lit up when he took my gift, and I insist him not to open it up, we barely saw each other. Reid had already arranged the table disposition and I was sitting between Chrissie and Sarah.

At last I had the chance to meet another Queen girl. It was exciting. Brian's girlfriend was a shy and private woman who seemed nearly borderline antisocial. We talked some words but most of the evening party I, another great shy, took the lead in the conversation. When she said she heard a lot about me from Brian and she dragged her green eyes and her nymph face over my whole body, I confirmed what I imagined about her. An extreme jealous woman and her gentle but melancholy nature, something not very helping to Brian, who tend to be depressed.

Chrissie didn't know but I did. Several years later it would arrive an earthquake called Anita Dobson who would sweep her away violently. But that 5th September she was still Brian May's girlfriend and his future wife and mother of his children.

The dinner had extended so much and I took a look at my watch, restless. I couldn't have rejected Freddie's invitation to his birthday, I wasn't willing to earn his rage, but I was thinking all the time on my appointment with the journalist.
