Brian felt his voice wasn't good. To me it was a discovery when that man showed his stubborn insecurities. However it was understandable that with a singer with such a powerful voice, he felt his voice wasn't any good.
Nevertheless I liked very much his tone. But it was too sweet to be right to sing his most rock songs where Freddie's raw power was needed.
Queen members were more and more intriguing to me. I didn't know when they became my friends and left their aura of megastars. Maybe they never left it completely. I loved that someone with such an analytic and empiric brain as Brian most of the time was a simple long legged boy with soft and welcoming curls, velvet voice and the empathy of a teacher in elementary school.
While we were chatting about the last record on the corridor of Hammersmith Odeon's dressing rooms, I remembered smiling that he was the most reluctant of the fourth to accept me in Queen circle. And now we exchanged books and could talk almost about everything.
They were performing five shows in a row in London after which they would take a rest for three days and restarted the rest of the British tour. They arrived on 29th November to start the five shows at Hammersmith. I have been pined and missing Freddie, now that I had him around I felt a strange fear. A sort of reserve, even awe. So I let the three shows passed not daring to attend to them and wear the backstage pass through John Reid's office.
But at the fourth I left behind all my fears and decided I must be a professional. In fact I just feared that Freddie would hurt me and it was obvious he didn't last long to do it. As soon as I saw his beloved boyfriend snooping around, my heart would bleed again. But I also missed the rest of the members and I had a damn mission between my hands. Freddie was my priority but not on a romantic level. I had to get into my head that having David around was good news. It was harder and harder to take.
Tuesday, on 2nd December 1975. Fourth Queen show at the Hammersmith Odeon. Tomorrow they were giving the fifth and last before making a pause and take a breath.
While Brian explained to me how maddening was for him tuning a harp and he spent doing it eight hours whilst playing the instrument took him just twenty minutes, I could notice Freddie's always powerful presence just a short distance from us. He seemed to be secretly jealous of our intellectual chemistry. He wanted it too, he wanted it all, my selfish Persian prince. My sex and my brain. Of course.
- Miss Polley, what are you waiting for to announce your presence? -he said bombastic while he pushed back his unruly black hair.
I watched him closely from head to toe. He still wore his outfit from the end of the show. The satin black suit, tighten perfectly to his slim and wavy body.
- I'm sorry, your Majesty -I followed his joke-. I thought there was a procedure to the audiences.
I kneeled on the floor improvising a royal greeting that made Brian laugh and Freddie stared at me with a smirk.
- Off the floor, disloyal subject.
- As you wish, your Majesty.
- Come on, let's check what kind of punishment you deserve -he growled grabbing my hand tightly and whisking me off there while I said goodbye to Brian mockingly.
The Queen's receptions post show from now on would be always endless orgies of journalists and famous people milling around. John Reid who walked around delighted with the smooth progress of the tour, satisfied the press making himself sure they got all the food and drinks they wished. He winked at me with his naughty smile and gave me one of the carnations that Freddie didn't throw to the audience.
- Here, magical cook.
- Thank you -I smiled at him bringing it to my nose with my eyes closed.
- Where are you going?
