HE WAS LOVED by all and yet, it was never seemingly enough. Kaeya reached for higher, his height of his own ambitions reached Celestia as the man who shouldered the death of his kingdom. The price of such ambition was his own undoing. You shouldered his pain with him as his significant other. You stood by his side, holding his hand when heaven itself seemingly denied Khaenri'ah salvation. Yet— he never allowed you to endanger yourself for the sake of the mission. Did he not believe you to be up to the task? Were you merely a stepping stone in his ambitions? Why was he patronizing you?
Each spat between the two of you got increasingly more aggressive with more tears shed each time. You demanded for him to place more faith in you and he demanded for you to comprehend his concerns for you. What concerns did he truly hold for you? Was it all a ruse for the public to see?
Kaeya was arriving home in a few hours— out on a commission and as usual, he had left you back at Mondstadt. You had packed your bags, time and time again in preparation to leave but you never found the strength to walk out on him. Despite his coldness towards you, you truly loved him. How befitting that he was granted a Cryo Vision by the Archons.
Your eyes remained fixed on the door to the shared apartment room between you and Kaeya. Bitterly, you chewed on your bottom lip in contemplation whether you truly were going to walk out on him or not. A sigh left your lips as you dropped the suitcase in your hand to flip onto the bed. It was the clicking of the front door that drew your attention to the midnight haired knight that stood in the doorframe.
"Oh, look. You're home." You muttered sarcastically, rolling your eyes as Kaeya strolled in. He ignored you, opting to remove his boots and feathery boa instead.
"Are you ignoring me now?" You hissed, sitting upright as Kaeya stripped down to his pirate shirt and leather jeans. "I don't see why I must answer you." He replied back.
"Maybe because I'm your significant other?" You raised an eyebrow at him, crossing your arms over your chest.
"I'm not obligated to respond." He said blankly, tossing his gloves into the wash bin that sat before the bathroom door.
There was a unmistakable rift between the two of you but your own stubbornness refused to give into his empty words. In the back of your mind, the thought of whether you even loved him still nagged. Kaeya had his ambitions and you had your pride— two fatal flaws that clashed and yet, you had once found solace in those eyes you've grown to hate.
"I'm leaving."
You dropped the bomb— awaiting for his response to which Kaeya merely shrugged. Anger flickered within you, he really didn't care after all of his response was to shrug at the notion that you were leaving him.
"Do as you please," he replied before you angrily shot up, glaring at him.
"Do you not care?!" You yelled, words echoing in your mind as your voice bounced off the walls. In the depth of your heart, maybe a sliver of love for the man before you still remained.
"I do—"
"Don't lie to me, Kaeya." You snapped, bitterly swallowing the lump forming in your throat. Tears threatened to fall as then midnight haired male stood in silence.
It was agonizing, the mere moments of absolute silence. The tension present in the air was thick and hard to breathe. You wondered how you could remedy such a situation but nothing came to mind. Perhaps it was all over. An uncomfortable itching started to irritate the back of your throat as you kept blinking the tears back, not allowing them to fall. It would be a sign; a sign of contention and weakness of this whole debacle. And you would not submit to the man who deemed you as too weak to fend for the country you're from and for the man you had once loved.
"Do what you wish— I don't care."
His words pierced through you, his violet gaze faltering to the ground as his slender fingers threaded through his midnight locks. Anger boiled in you and yet, you couldn't find the words you ought to say.
"You're a foolish man— a stupid, foolish, ambitious man, Kaeya Alberich." You spat venomously, fist clenched tightly with nails digging crimson crescents into your skin.
"Once I had loved you; held you above all as one most dear to me." You continued, lighting the flame even more. "Now you stand before me as a stranger." Kaeya opted for silence as you lashed out at him.
"It's a damn shame that this had to end so bitterly." You growled as you swiftly grasped the suitcase at your feet before rising from the once shared bed. "I pray that you may find solace in your life, Kaeya Alberich."
You walked out, without another word or a spare glance to the man you once called 'lover'. With the slamming of the door, you were gone.
Kaeya had many regrets in his life and losing you was the greatest of all. Immediately after you left, he felt the emptiness of the room. The silence was deafening as the words you spat at him with such venom echoed in his ears like a mantra. His violet eyes were blurry as tears welled in them; wet jewels that shed tears. In the end, it was his stubbornness that prevented him from stopping you; not wanting to prove that you were right. What remained was the cold, empty hearse of a room.
