(Ashley POV)

I'm awoken from my peaceful slumber by the annoying chimes of my alarm clock. I slap at the Snooze button lazily, sitting up. Well, today's the day. My first day of boarding school. I slide out of bed and get ready, a slight excitement bubbling up from inside me.

I stand outside in the crisp air, waiting for the huge yellow monster (school bus) to come hurtling down the road. Boarding school is supposed to be a living hell, but I don't think that's true. It's better than being in the position of Millie, the main character in the book The Plague, about a pandemic that kills most of the people in the world. So, I take it that going to boarding school isn't too bad. Then, the bus comes down the street, coming to a halt in front of my house with a puff of exhaust. The doors open and I walk onto the bus, my stomach doing flips. I sit down in a seat near the back and look at the back of the seat in front of me. It's going to be a year full of surprises, I know that much, I think.

"Hey," I'm startled out of my daydreaming by a voice. I look around to find a blonde-haired boy sitting next to me. I must've sat down without realizing it. I sit there for a second before coming to my senses and mumbling a "Hi," To him and turning away. Now, where was I? I think, diverting my attention back to the story I was narrating in my head. Ah, yes. Here. I think, remembering the line I was on. "And she looked up at the swollen moon hanging high above the hills and said, 'This is too beautiful, too serene to be-'" My thoughts are interrupted.

"Are you nervous about your first day, too?"
