(Jayden POV)

I met up with Ashley, who followed behind me as we wandered through the halls.

"Over there!" I turned around, glancing down the hallway to my right. There it was, its back turned to us.

"You know what to do," I whispered. She nodded, taking off down the hall towards the gym. Meanwhile, I hit the broomstick I was holding against the wall, catching its attention. It grumbled, turning towards me. It took off down the hall. I ran back in the direction Ashley had gone. The hardest part was keeping the perfect distance between myself and the bacteria. The doors to the gymnasium came into view after turning down another hallway. Ashley held one of the doors open with a rope. When she noticed me, she gave a subtle nod and pulled the door open wider. All of the doors leading out of the gym were locked except the one she was holding open. So there's logically no way for it to get out. I thought, speeding through the door and running to the locker room entrance. I flung the door open and slammed it shut behind me. I shoved the key in the lock and twisted it. The only way to open it was by unlocking it from the inside. This would be the door we'd leave out of. I turned around and made my way to the other locker room on this side. Ashley was there, tapping her foot on the ground silently.

"I locked all the doors, so let's go kill this thing." She said, turning to me. I didn't nod, instead, turned the handle to the locker room door. Closing it behind me, I raced across the gym, sinking the broomstick into the bacteria's leg. Continuing to run forward, I slammed into the locker room door on the other side and swung it open quickly. After I'd closed it, I leaned against the door, taking a moment to rest. Then, I grabbed one of the stakes from off the ground and ran across it again. I left out the other door, running across the gym diagonally, this time, unable to hit the bacteria. I left out the main gym entrance, entering the other locker room from the outside and leaving it unlocked. When I did that, It was the signal for Ashley to repeat the same thing. When I made it back to the locker room, Ashley had disappeared into the opposite locker room. This went on for a few minutes, Ashley and I dodging the bacteria as we sped across the gym. We couldn't do this forever, we'd eventually tire of running. But we had to try. I'd been watching Ashley, waiting for my turn to run out again-just a little after we'd reversed the order we ran in. She'd been right there, I thought that she would make it, and then she stumbled. And I watched her go down, the bacteria directly behind her, closing in. My heart dropped to my stomach, and I wanted so badly to go out there and help her, but I knew exactly what she would say.

(Ashley POV)

Just leave me here, don't worry about me, save yourself. I knew Jayden couldn't hear me. Obviously, he wouldn't leave me behind, but when I looked back, he wasn't rushing out the door as I expected. But, the bacteria was too close. I wasn't getting out of this alive. I reached for my weapon, flipping onto my back and landing a blow to the bacteria. Then I heard the door slam. A second weapon poked through the fibery flesh of the bacteria's stomach. It stumbled and fell, though we already knew it wouldn't stay down for long. Jayden held out his hand, not having spoken a word since he helped me. I got up quickly, shoving him towards the other locker room door. Just as we were about to enter the next locker room, I glanced backward and caught sight of the bacteria, holding two makeshift spears. Looking forward again, I shoved Jayden into the locker room and shut the door, to the best effect I could with Jayden struggling against my hands. I gave him a weak smile. "Save yourse-" Then came the seizing pain as the sticks paved a hole through my flesh. I provided one last faint touch to the door before the pain got the best of me. Tears rolled down my cheeks as I sank to the ground in the pool of blood that had leaked out of the wound I had acquired. But it didn't stop there. The bacteria lifted me off the ground and, just as my vision began to fade, I fell into the expanse of teeth that lined its saliva-coated throat. There was darkness, yet still more pain before all of it stopped. I heard nothing, saw nothing, felt nothing, yet I knew where I was.

Good to see you again...

old friend Death.

A/N- I can't believe I had the motivation to write a death scene today. Anyway, any ideas on why Ashley called Death an "old friend?"

And no, she's not a devil.

But I leave it for you to figure out!

I think I have enough motivation to finish writing it!

One more chapter!!!!

Have a nice day/night!
