(Jayden POV)
I felt bile rising in my throat. The blood. The screaming. The pain. Instead of dwelling on it, I did my best to push the feeling down and grabbed the last weapon I had, promising myself then that I wouldn't rest until this thing was dead. I'd already lost two people-I couldn't risk the rest of the world if I had a chance at killing it. I took a deep breath, and when I exhaled, I tried my best to leave behind what happened by that door at that door. And, I put one foot in front of the other, doing the only thing I could at this point: going forward. The other door felt heavier than it should've, but I kept going, out the door and into the center of the gym, drawing the bacteria's attention to me. It let out the most menacing growl I'd heard, plowing toward me. I held out my weapon in front of me, charging at it with the same determination to win. And as my last weapon collided with the flesh of the monster, I muttered the only words left-the words that would save everyone's world...
...and end mine.
The air around me exploded into bright colors as the last syllable left my lips. It had to have been the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen, but the only thought that polluted mine was that maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't known what was coming next. The bacteria exploded into mold, splattering across the gym. Then came my turn. Pain erupted from my chest, just as the air around me had just moments ago. As penance for using the most powerful non-moon-cycle-related spell, I'd have to die a painful death. I fell to my knees, coughing. When I opened my eyes, the mold-covered ground was spattered with blood. And I began choking on my own blood. My breaths became shallow and sounded more like screaming than breathing. My head felt like it would explode any moment, and my body felt like it was on fire. It was, quite literally. Black flames crawled up my skin, and it began to crack and split, revealing the bloody flesh underneath. I screamed out in agony, though it came out more like a wail. When the flames reached my head, I blacked out, falling into seemingly endless darkness.
But then there was a blinding light...
so bright, so comforting...
...so familiar...
(Third person POV)
In the Tunnels beneath the school, all was peaceful as the sun reached its midday spot. But, when the sun reflected through the glass just right-three nearly transparent, young figures were visible. They glanced around, confused.
"Why are we here...?" One of the figures asked as she lifted a hand and watched as it disappeared in the sunlight.
"I'm- I'm not sure." The second figure said, glancing around at the surroundings she's gotten to know so well over the past few months.
"At least we're here together." The third spoke, shuddering at the thought of his painful death hours earlier. "We'll figure out the rest later." The three nodded.
"You know, I never thought I'd meet you guys like this." Ashley spoke.
"But I'm glad we did."
A/N- I- I- I actually finished this book! AAAA I'm so happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So did you guys enjoy it?
Oh and a surprise...
I'm already working on the sequel!
Anyway, the two-plus years of work for this book are finally done! The only thing that beats this feeling is finishing a great series, but I'd always settle for this!
Have a nice day/night!
