(Ashley POV)
I'm eager to get to know new people, so when I see the tall, brown-haired girl leaving her dorm, I call out, "Wanna join us for lunch?" She jumps for a second, but then she smiles slightly."S-sure, I'll join you guys." She says."Ok!" I reply cheerfully. In a place where I know nobody, I've already found two friends. I smile, satisfied with myself. The brown-haired girl's name is Olivia, she also got a scholarship. Six of the twelve students were accepted to get a scholarship this year, half of what the school usually has. I'm surprised, as this is the only boarding school in the state of New York, but not a lot of people send their kids to boarding schools anymore. When I got the scholarship, my parents freaked and insisted I go. I was not entirely against the decision, as having my own "home" and doing things on my "own" time was something I would always want. Lunch goes by quickly, making me wish I did not have classes after this. But, my first-afternoon class today, was an extracurricular program called "Gifted and Talented" I have no idea what it is, but it sounds kind of fun. I can't wait! ###It says on our schedule that Gifted and Talented is in room #201, but there is no room 201. Then, just as I am about to give up hope, I see a door at the end of the hallway. It has no number, but I have a feeling it is the one. I open the door, revealing a stairway going a short way down. It feels like the beginning of a horror movie, and I almost get excited before I remember what usually happens in horror movies that have stairways. I swallow my thoughts and slowly make my way down the stairs, holding my pencil out in front of me. Olivia and some of the other kids are sitting in a brightly-lit room, a half-bald man standing at the front, wearing a Hawaiian shirt despite the temperature outside. I nearly stab Jayden with my pencil when I hear footsteps behind me. We laugh about my overreaction for a second before walking into the main room and sitting down in the last two chairs. I am seated next to Olivia and a guy named Michael. Francesca and Emma seem to be the oldest of all of us, almost twelve, while the rest of us are barely past eleven. Michael seems to be the comedian of the group, while Olivia and I are more serious, but we still joke around together. It turns out that the guy wearing a Hawaiian shirt is Mr. Andrews, our gifted and talented teacher. He said he used to live in California, as nobody has ever been to California. Olivia says that she wants to go there, but she hasn't gotten to go yet.
