"you ready?" kelly asks, turning off the car

"no. as much as i wanted to leave the damn hospital, going home sucks." millie mutters, getting out of the car

"by the way millie, for dinner-"

"salad again? i know." millie cuts her off with a roll of her eyes

"that was the only thing i couldn't change." kelly sighs as they walk into the house

"i'm used to it, it's fine." millie lies, giving her mother a reassuring smile

kelly smiles in response before shutting the door softly and quietly.

from afar, millie can see charlie in the kitchen, probably making something to eat like always. from upstairs, she can hear the faint sounds of ava's ipad meaning she was in her room.

paige was probably just somewhere in the house but she definitely was not in her view.

but her dad was. he was sitting right in the living room on his phone.

so once she saw him, she quickly made the decision to tiptoe upstairs just so she didn't need to make conversation or get scolded.

over these few months, he has gotten more.... strict. it did scare her a bit, causing some nightmares here and there but what could she do about it?

i mean it's not like—

"millie! get in here!" robert yells, cutting her out of her thoughts with a small inaudible gasp

she looks out around in hopes it was a dream or something but it wasn't so she drops her stuff and heads towards the living room.

"yes dad?" she asks quietly whilst looking down and playing with her thumbs

"that director i told you about, you're meeting with him tomorrow." he says, not even bothering to look up from his phone or even to say a welcome home!

"dad, i said that i-"

"you are going, millie!" he shouts, looking up at her and meeting her gaze as she flinches, "i am so done with your crybaby bullshit!"

"god, i would kill to have the old you back." he scoffs, looking at his phone again

"well you can't. people broke me and this is what you get now." she speaks back

he stands up, "broke you? no one broke your ungrateful ass, you just chose to cry and you just chose to give up on life instead of fighting." he laughs in her face

"WELL YOU'RE ONE OF THE PEOPLE WHO TOLD ME TO GIVE UP!" she screams, pointing a finger in his face

he slaps her across the cheek, his finger nail causing a small layer of skin to fall off.

she gasps in pain, shakily holding her cheek before looking up at him in horror, "you're a fucking monster.... what did i ever do to deserve you as a father?" she whispers, turning her heel and walking upstairs to her room

she holds back her tears as she makes her way to her room and sees her mother exit her room with a small smile.

"hey mills- what happened? why are you-"

"just leave me alone." millie pushes her out of the room further and slams the door shut whilst locking it

she walks over to her bed sobbing as her mum continues to pound on the door in hopes of her opening it.

but millie blocked all of the sounds out, she could barely hear anything over the sounds of herself crying anyways.

she leans back against her headboard, grabbing a small mirror from her nightstand to look at the cut her dad made.
