Chapter 10

Before I knew it the med staff was in my room trying their best to get me off of the floor. I tried my best to swallow the pain from the heat and stumbled to my feet as they lifted me up. We all walked together to the stairs the heat continued to burn inside of me making me sweat profusely I couldn't control anything I was doing. When we finally made it down to the clinic they laid me down in an ice bath to keep me as cool as possible as they ran some tests. The heat started to dwindle, I still felt hot, and the burning wasn't as painful, but still very prominent.

My brother Travis was asleep in the chair beside me as we waited for news about what's going on with me. The nurse walked in with a clip board and walked over to me popping a thermometer in my mouth. I just rolled my eyes and waited for it to beep as soon as it beeped she pulled it out of my mouth and looked at my temperature. "Okay Ms. Elizabeth your temperature has gone down a lot from when you first got here, but it's still pretty high" she said writing on her clipboard. "Does Doctor Raymond know what's wrong yet?" I asked getting restless from sitting in this ice bath that's already halfway melted.

"He's still trying to find the exact cause of all of this, but it's looking towards you being in heat" she said looking up at me and setting her clipboard down. "I thought wolves only went into heat when they meet their mate?" I asked as I shifted under the ice to face her better. "That's why I'm here have you met anyone new lately" she asked looking at me questionably. "I met new people everyday at work I don't know who it could be, I mean the only person I've recently met is Alpha Mason, but he already has a mate" I said a twinge of sadness hitting me. "Alright well we are going to try our best to figure out what's happening with you and we will get back to you" she said walking out of the room.

I leaned my head against the wall as I racked my brain thinking of things besides heat that would cause this. Travis stirred in his sleep and slowly opened his eyes and looked over at me. "Any news yet sis?" he asked sitting up and rubbing his eyes. He hasn't left my side since the heat started "They think it's heat" I said looking at my brothers reaction. He quickly turned his head to look at me shock written all over his face "Are you serious?" he asked as he waited for my response. "Yep, but I can't think of anyone who could be my mate" I said looking up at the ceiling. "Do you think it could be-" he started, but I cut him off "No, he's here with his mate" I said turning my head back to look at him.

"Wow okay well let's see what else they have for us okay sis" he said pulling his phone out of his pocket. We heard a knock on the door and we both turned our attention to the doctor walking in. "So we have found the exact cause of all this and it is in fact heat" I sighed as my mind flooded with thought on who it could be. "I know it's very frustrating because you don't know exactly who your mate is, but the reason females such as yourself experience heat when they meet their mate is so that they can find their mate" he said looking at me a serious look in his eyes. "Sometimes in these situations when you don't know who your mate is your mate is normally in denial or they do not know the signs of a mate that is present" he continued watching my face for my reaction.

"But in good news the worst of it is over you will continue to feel the heat and it will slowly go away. You will be able to carry on as usual, but keep in mind you will feel hotter than normal" he said waiting for me to take it all in. "Hopefully before all of this is over you will know exactly who your mate is" he said looking at me with a hint of humor in his eyes. "Check back in with me in a few days and we will see your progress" he said reaching his hand out for me to shake. I shook his hand and stood up out of the now water and grabbed the towel drying off my body as best as I could and wrapping it around my waist.

My brother lead me back up to my room and would not stop asking about my mate. "Travis you're about to really piss me off leave me alone I don't know who he is!" I yelled as we both walked into my suite together. I turned my head to the living room and my parents and Randy were sitting on the couch. "Hey guys" my dad chuckled as he heard us arguing "Hi dad" I said rolling my eyes as Travis jumped onto my other couch across the room from us. "Little sister here has found her mate" he said laughing as my cheeks flushed. "You're in heat?" my mom asked jumping up off of the couch and throwing her arms around me.
